  • 2010 skoda VRS - bad news on 10k service (oil leak, water leak)

I took my VRS to get services by VW village in kensington. No drama with the service but they confirmed that the reason I had to top up the coolant the other week was because the water pump is leaking water (warranty claim).

But the more annoying news was there was an oil leak developing around the rear flywheel and from their experience this is a problem with this engine in the new GTIs as well -- they had one that was in for over TWO WEEKS at barloworld: as the engine and gearbox has to come out.

So my question to the forum, apart from warning you that it might happen to your early current model VRS if it hasn't already, is .. where do I take it? Atarmon holden? I wonder if I'm getting into a situation here, if the atarmon skoda dealer hasn't yet had to do much engine removal surgery!

Two weeks! Make sure they give you a loan car sounds like the first thing to do!

I dont think it really matters any VW dealer should be able to do it under warranty. Replacing a waterpump and a rear main seal isn t exactly rocket science, just time consuming. Sorry to hear about your problem though, and hopefuly it is an isolated case.

            Petrol.
same as the one in the current series VW GTI.

I think you meant the Mk V Golf GTI. From memory, current Mk 6 GTI has a newer 2L engine which develops 155kW as opposed to the RS at 147kW?? Others can correct me there.

No difference in engine at all, the 155kw is meaningless as it went up in kw but retained the same 0-100km. They were both upgraded at the same time and now run the timing chain, the GTi had the XDS but this is now standard in the RS also.

If it is happening to a current VRS there is every chance it is happening to the Golf 6 GTi.

nyc863, we spotted your car out the front of the workshop, hope things improve...

Yes the engine is the same as the Mk6 GTI, the extra *cough* 8 kW seems to be in the engine management.

well that was what i was told - that it is a known issue with the GTI Mk 6 engine - so it was not a surprise to them to see the same thing on the skoda.

so, should I even bother calling anyone but atarmon skoda, to ask after their willingness to do a warranty repair on my Skoda?

yup, the new tsi engine, as opposed to the old tfsi engine.
its a marketting & sales tactic by VAG. they're not gonna let the octavia rs have the same power output as their key model - the golf gti.
it would hurt sales for the gti, not that the rs is any threat to the gti!!
same thing with the jetta - it too has the same engine as the gti, but is detuned down to 147kW, just like the rs.
