They don't seem to check what exact model that people have at Richmond despite being almost the longest running dealer in Victoria and therefore should be seeing the later out of warranty servicing more than anyone. I had to repeatedly chase up with SKoda/VW as they kept telling me that my belt needed changing at 50k/4 yrs when all it needed was an inspection. In the end they still didn't do that.

I also queried if the wiper blades were OK as they kept smearing even when cleaned and it said they had checked them. Vito said they would have and it was listed that they did. Blades kept smearing and upon replacing them recently the problem is gone. Weird that they had a chance at replacing something and didn't.

I'm still debating whether to get the driver seat heater looked at and was thinking of seeing whether Volkspower want a crack at it.

I've since spoken with them and they have also agreed to replace the filter which i'm happy about.

Vito did try convince me that Skoda keep changing their minds about when the oils supposed to be changed, but the service booklet itself says 60k.

I am a tad worried about the long term repercussions of not replacing the oil at 60k. i mean it's been sitting there for an extra 35k

-hope all is going to be well.

Ahhh, Richmond Skoda service. One of the main things (along with other dealers I tried) that got me out of the brand. Once the awful Leonard moved to Audi Centre, the attitude was much better but if anything the competence went down. Last set of work I had done there was not only the usual eye-wateringly expensive (out of warranty), but all 3 items required rework because of poor workmanship. Fabulous effort on their part.

Were I you, I would definitely go independent. Before I decided it was all just too hard that's what I was planning to do.

I'm in that awkward phase where I'm out of warranty but don't want to break the dealer servicing even though Richmond has clearly slipped a lot. I have not once in recent years been sure what should have been done is done. And last year it took 3 drop in visits and two calls to Skoda to get them to agree when the belt gets replaced. Yes the schedules have changed from the book, but they are not keeping on top of what gets done where.

With our front drivers seat heaters not working though I'd be stupid to go to the dealer so Volkspower will be the go.

Yep, sounds like dilemma I had. I wanted to go independent but was concerned that if a $4k turbo or a $God knows DSG failure or something similarly expensive occurred I may not get a goodwill repair because I left the dealer network. I also resented the idea that cost would force me out of the dealer network for a non-premium car. Like I said, all too hard in the end.

I agree Richmond have no clue about servicing now. At the second last visit (last year) the service rep said 'How's you gearbox? We're doing 2-3 clutch kits a week at the moment'. "Fine' says I, all the while thinking "They'll be DQ200s and mine isn't. Don't you know your models?????'

I know it won't ease your mind but when I spoke to Auto Union Deutsche about pricing the 60k service they said they would do the belt as the car would be 5 years old. Don't think they were keen on it being left.

Get the waterpump done at the same time. I'm still debating it, but if I do it early, Richmond won't be the ones doing it that's for sure.

                Quick update.

They replaced the oil and filter at no cost which is great news.

Not sure if i should feel any difference (because i don't)

But happy that things have been sorted.

A friend of mine now works at Audi Spares in Oakleigh. He's a top guy and qualified VW Tech so all my servicing will be going there from now (even though it's a bit far to travel)

Just had my 120,000km service done at my local specialist VW ninja.

                  Basic Inspection Service / Oil / Filter = $320
                  Brake Fluid flush = $145

They probably aren't the cheapest in the world but they are good techs & they look after me if I need a favour.

All set for another 10 months.

Sorry. Just jumped in here (recent newbie). Been tearing my hair out over servicing and dealer pricing. Trying to decide whether (and why) I should fork out $980 for the original sales & service people at Richmond Skoda for the 60k service on our Scout 2010, TDI 6-sp manual (just out of warranty). I have 40 years experience as a moto mechanic and have always done major and minor work on our cars until time restraints made that too difficult. I also have a v good independent mechanic/workshop who says he can do the service - uses all gen parts, but my concern is the diagnostic check/reset. For a start I want the SERVICE NOW warning to disappear, but mainly want to know what benefit there is in a diagnostic check if the car is running perfectly. Anyone explain if there is a benefit and how I can get a diagnostic done if I carry out all the work myself: basically, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, pollen filter, Haldex drive front & rear, brake fluid flush was done 12 months ago. Are there independents with the software to run on the Skoda TDI? I reqested a quote from Bayford VW Epping as per fixed pricing on a Tiguan $645 (pretty much mechanically same as the 4x4 Scout), but they said they can't do it as they don't have the diagnostic program for my engine no. in their VAG setup ... which I found very strange.
Last question: is there a good workshop manual for the 2010 Scout 103 TDI? Is the factory one obtainable?
                      Thanks for reading!

buy a ross-tech cable and do your own diagnostics/resets.

if your car is out of warranty, service anywhere you like. I agree with using genuine parts and filters, its a good move.

If you want the "service" light to disappear, the instructions are in the owners manual.
2014 MY14 Corrida Red Elegance Wagon TDI
2009 MY10 Race Blue RS Wagon TSI 6 sp. manual. (Gone)
                          2011 MY12 Yeti 77 TSI DSG.

Man, can you find the "enter" key please?

You'd do the services no probs. I can do them & I was a crap mechanic except for suspension & brakes.

I get mine done by an Independant VW specialist due to time issues & I like to have somebody that knows me when something difficult comes up. IIRC, my 60,000k was around $600.

There are a fair few good VW specialists in Melbourne but where they are compared to Preston I have no idea.

Service now is manually reset by:
                            1) ignition off
                            2) press & hold tripmeter reset button
                            3) turn ignition on. "Service Now" will appear on display
                            4) release the trip meter reset button & twist it clockwise.
Service indicator should now be reset. You can test by pressing the tripmeter button immediately after turning off the ignition with the key still in.

You can do your own diagnostic with ross tech VCDS cable.

VW service centres don't have the Skoda files on their machines & vice-versa. It sucks as Skoda inferred that Skodas could be done at VW service centres when they first came out.

Look on ebay for a workshop manual disc with ETKA (parts)

                              Yeah, sorry - long paragraph!

Thanks for the tips. I'm leaning more and more to doing the fluids and filters myself. Nabbing a manual beforehand might be a good idea. Do I assume it covers the diagnostics?

Will the Ross Tech adapt to a Macbook (and does it include software)? My main query about the diagnostics was whether or not the CPU is likely to require resetting on a car that's basically run the same, day-after-day, for a year since we've had it? I'm guessing you connect, it does a diagnostic and changes nothing unless it finds a fault ? (... but I know nothing when it comes to this moderno CPU CAN bus-adorned TDI!)

I think you'll need an emulator or VM for a mac

you could alway buy a cheap Asus netbook for VCDS. I think mine was $200 at HVN last year. easier to use in the car than a 15" laptop.

VCDS just scans the errors & either resets them or you can leave them. you can also use it to do data logs & change some of the settings in the car.

if you only need it once a year then their are probably some MEL guys willing to help for a 6-pack

i have no idea what the manuals have in them - never looked at one.
