  • Skoda New Dealers - NSW

Was having a look at the Skoda Website - interesting to see we are down to just 3 metro dealers at St. Leonards, Blacktown & Penrith (Blacktown & Penrith seem relatively close together).

Of further interest though was the proliferation of regional dealers.
Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Port Maquarie, Newcastle, Gosford, Orange, Dubbo, Wollongong, Moss Vale, Albury. I hope they all do OK.

Has anyone had anything to do with Allan Mackay Autos/Skoda in Moss Vale? It appears he does Peugeot & Volvo already, so he might be worth a try for servicing. Quick rip up Maquarie Pass before & after wouldn't hurt either.

Is anyone aware of any service-only Skoda centres?

I bought my Skoda through Steve Jarvin, but they're shutting up shop with Skoda, and really I wasn't overally impressed with their service department anyway - bit of a long story
I have just had my RS serviced by the guys here in Newcastle, and if the service i got was anything to go buy, they will do very well!!
It's the little things as well as attention to detail that really have an impact......
    - Free courtesy car (another Skoda Octavia wagon)
    - replaced the number plate surrounds ( previous steve Jarvin ones with the Nissan part blacked out - very 2nd hand in my opinion ) with some very nice looking Newcastle Skoda ones - free of charge
    - washed & detailed the RS
    - Fault found the tow bar problem - ECU not programmed and a blown fuse - SJ told me it was a Control Unit issue ( I'm still yet to connect the trailer up to confirm all is good ) but the guys at Newcastle did mention it might not be the correct control unit fitted as the only way to get the lights to work without tripping a globe caution light was using the North American code, but I have to check it on my trailer, as they were only using a load box to test with.
And then of course the guys did a good job on the service, and phoned me as soon as it was ready to pick up.
If anyone in Newcastle or surrounding areas needs their Skoda serviced, then chat to Ashley at the Audi/Skoda service centre, you wont be disappointed!!

They gave you free no. plate surrounds with their advertising on, Wow lucky you. The first thing I do when I buy a car is rip all the dealers stickers and advertising material off. They normaly have to pay for advertising so why give it to them for free.

Yeah I usually do the same thing with the stickers. Though with the number plate holders, I just colour the white writing in with permanent marker. But haven't yet got around to doing it with the skoda out of sheer laziness.

I get really pissed off when dealers do that at service time. It's my car not theirs and what I have or don't have on it is my perogative.
I have told dealers on the drive way that I want the plate surrounds and their stickers removed before I will pay for the service before now. Taking another dealers promotional material off and replacing it with their own without asking first is straight out vandalism imo.
I don't have a problem with dealers putting stickers and things on a new car, that's a bit of advertising for them but if I deceide to take them off they stay off.

I was lucky. I just told the dealers not to put the plates on, and they set the plates aside for me. So, there's no dealer promotional material on my car at all. Just Skoda ones

Holy **** guys, so anti dealership yet you expect freakin huge deals and gold star aftersales service. Next you'll be pulling the Skoda & Octavia badges off your cars as Skoda dont pay you to advertise their vehicles either.......... time to go clean skin fellas?? Or god forbid if you pull the Skoda badge off and put a VW badge on - kinda like the Holden guys putting a Chev badge on to replace the Holden lion

I hate stickers, so i agree there, but a tastefully small little logo that you can hardly notice on a number plate surround I have no problems with. All I was saying is that it was better then what SJ Skoda put on the vehicle, and the RS looks better for it. If I was stressed about dealership logo's I would have bought my own surrounds. Now if i had my own surrounds on and the dealership put theirs on, then there would be a drama!!

Now that's an idea... I was thinking of modifying my Skoda badge on my car Wouldn't put a VW badge on it though, Already had one of those and I sold it to get a Skoda.... Maybe I can put an MPS or TRD badge on it or something... LOL

In my case, they only had a day to get my car ready, so I don't think they got around to put any stickers on it. As for the plates surrounds, they already knew I would be changing my plates so they didn't give me any... As yet I have not changed it It was more that I didn't want them to put the plates on in case they drilled it in just like on my old GTI, where they drilled into the bumper and the foam behind it, and on an angle too

I like my dealership enough that I do expect Gold Star aftersales service and so far they have not done any less

Lennock's in Canberra put a little "Lennock" sticker on the paint of the cars they sell. Usually just above the badge on the back of the car, so we have loads of people driving around in "Lennock Golf" or "Lennock Octavia" cars.
I'm pretty sure they don't do that for the Jags they sell...

Can anyone remember the Chevy dealer Stack? They used to drill holes in the car & rivet a badge on.

tynan Motors like to stick their Tynan badge onto the paintwork. Mostly it looks OK but you get a few were the installer has no idea about proportion or accuracy.

That was realatively common until the late 1970's then stickers that lasted became available.

When I was in the trad we used to put our stickers inside the rear window making sure that they were not on the heater wires so people could remove them but one thing I would never do is put my stickers on a car that was in for service regardless of what was on it.

Get a couple of hydraulic jacks to make the spoiler go up and down as you accelerate and brake and nobody will know it's not a Bugatti. After all how many people have actually seen a real one in Sydney?

I'm thinking Porsche Panamera badges for me. They are just about as rare as Bugatti's.

I'm with you on this one - You cant have it both ways.

We all want Skoda to stay and be a force to reckon with in the market place so to a certain degree we have got to support the dealers and get the word out.
Although i do hate picking up a new car with loads of stickers all over the rear window. The worst company i have come across for that is Klosters.
just glad i wasn't around to experience the drilling and inserting of advertising badges that would have made me a very unhappy chappy.

We are the mug punters. Getting the word out is not our job that's what Skoda are supposed to do with a proportion of our hard earned if they are serious.
Tell me guys. When you buy a house do you leave the big sign board from the Real Estate Agent permanently on display on the front lawn?
When you take your clothes into the dry cleaner would you be happy if they embroidered their logo on your suits before they gave them back?
Would you like your Dentist to tattoo his details on your front teeth for all to see?

As I explained earlier my beef is not dealers putting stickers on cars when they are delivered (at the time that they put the stickers on the car they still legally own it anyway) it's service departments putting stickers on customers cars that they do not own without the permission of the customer. It's my car and it's my decision what is on it. If I want to put a sticker on my Skoda advertising the local Ford dealer the Skoda dealer has absolutely no legal or moral right to remove that sticker and replace it with one of his while I own the vehicle.
