I can highly recommend Continentals. I have them on Mrs Donweather's Tiggy and I got almost 50,000km out of them. Would have got easy another 5000km+ if I wasn't slack and had got a wheel alignment done sooner. Got new Continentals put on. They aren't cheap, but hey, they treated me well.

Not that it's a personal recommendation, but Pirelli's latest P-zero won UK evo magazine's latest performance car tyre test against the other majors, carried out on Audi A3s, so broadly comparable. I've recently put a couple of P7 Cinturatos on my Scout (replacing Pzero Rosso), but still getting used to them.

KU31 are great for the money. I got 46,000km from my 1st set.
My last set were $160 each + fitting etc.

I agree, on all points.

Amazing value, when new, still decent 'value' when a bit older, but not so good in wet anymore. I'm guessing about ~7000kms since new & noticed a difference in both wet & dry handling being a bit worse.

Also, I got my 225/40/18 for $140 each, fitted!

I'm quite happy for their 'value' at $140ea, but I would expect a lot more for $280. A LOT more from a tyre that expensive yet average in the wet!

$140-$180 was what I thought the 18" were selling for - you'd get PS3 for ~$300ish .

I know when i fitted KU31 to Dad's Accord that I paid $110 each for 205/55x16 from tempe tyres & tyrepower in Caringbah quoted him $180 each, so it pays to shop around.

Also, the KU31 were good for about 20,000km on the Octy whereas the Michelin Primacy I now have are at 50,000km & still have ~10,000km left in them. I'm thinking PS3 next as tempe have some pretty good prices on Michelin

Yes they do, and there's a reason for that - they're parallel imports, and Michelin Australia are washing their hands clean of any warranty claims. Caveat emptor!

You will generally find that in many cases a Michelin dealer will match a genuine quote (ie. on paper) with the genuine, locally-sourced product.

Under current NSW consumer laws the retailer is responsible for providing warranty coverage, therefore any claims for faulty product would be to the retailer. As a parallel importer, Tempe are taking on the warranty risk.
Having been a retailer of Michelin products in the the past, I can confidently say that the likelihood of having to make a claim for a faulty tyre is negligable. I wouldn't be as confident with a few other brands.

As a current Michelin retailer, I would tend to agree with you regarding the quality of the product, but there's always that one time. As long as people are aware of the fact that Tempe will have to cover the claim, all is good.

At 45k our Michelen PE2s are still going gangbusters, so glad I got my car when I did, as the tyres they used afterwards weren't close.

Hopefully the PS3s will work well, we had them on the 6 but it hardly pushed their limits. My mate has over 60k and still on his original PE2s as well, and still grippy right to what has to be soon the end.

I have about 35k on my Kumhos (KU31 I think, must check). They are definitely getting noisier than when they were new they are probably about 60% worn I guess. Can't say i have noticed much difference in the wet but if I feel like driving in any way in a spirited fashion I do it when road conditions are suitable definitely not when there is a mixture of water and oil on the road surface.
The original Dunlops I have lasted 37k when I got a flat on one and it wasn't worth repairing it because they would have only lasted a few thousand km more. I wanted PS3's at the time but there were none in the country.
Overall I can't complain about the price / performance / wear ratio of the Kumhos. I will probably look at another set when the time comes.

Just an update regarding the longevity of the Michelin PS3's.

I've just replaced them on our car and they wore perfectly for 60000km.
They were put on the car at 19000km and have just been removed at 79000km.
The grippiness remained constant throughout.

These were in the 235/40 size.

I'd recommend them to anyone wanting to changeover.
And they're a great deal cheaper in this size too.
$265 per tyre from Jax in Sydney.
