Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Parked my Octavia this morning, turned the ignition off and just as i opened my door a beeping noise goes off. I look at the dash to see if there was a warning light of some sort, there wasn't. I then looked around to see if i've forgotten to put the handbrake on, or put the car in park, both were fine. After a few minutes of looking around i couldn't figure out why the car was beeping at me. So i put the key back in the ignition, started the car and then switched it off again, opened the door and this time no beeping noise.

    Anyone else have this issue?

The reason why an off-centre indicator stalk makes a chime is because it turns on the parking lights on that side.

IIRC, in some of the Euro countries, if you are parked on the street at night, you have to put the street-side corner lights on. I can't remember the particular circumstances but do remember the wife's cousin leaving his lights on (although i can't quite see how that would work as so many cars seem to sit in the one spot for the whole week & only get used on weekends).
