  • 2008 RS wagon - thin orange lines on right rear quarter glass?

I have a 2008 RS wagon and I'm thinking about getting it tinted.

I've read that metallic films can interfere with the radio reception with an in-glass antenna. I don't want to start a long thread on whether or not this is true but I'd like to avoid the issue altogether, if possible.

The car has (what I assume to be) the radio antenna in the roof. A small semi-flexible wire fixed in the middle of the roof, towards the back.

But the right rear window (looking into the cargo area) has a few thin orange lines that look like either defroster elements or an in-glass antenna. Can anyone confirm what these are? Does the RS have a diversity antenna (a system of two antennas for the radio)?

Again, maybe it won't be a problem but I can always just go with a ceramic film or something and not worry about it at all.

    Thanks!

I always assumed they were defrosting elements, as like you say the antenna is on the roof... my windows are tinted and I have no reception problems with radio.

      Space-godzilla,

Check your manual. I was in the same situation with my R36 wagon. I found out, from the manual after much searching, the side rear windows contained (IIRC) the AM antenna and maybe the one on your roof is the FM or SATNAV antenna? This might be the same for your fellow VAG car.
FYI: My tinter told me to go a non-metallic tint to avoid interferance with AM reception.
      Good luck with it.

      Cheers,

      Jayse.

        +1

My tinter told me the same thing. Just get a non-metallic tint if you aren't sure. It limits your choice a bit, but my non metallic doesn't appear to be that different to my previous metallic tint.

+2 Its an aerial. Ceramic tint on the rear glass can avoid any potential issues, though complaints about poor reception with metallic tint seem to be uncommon.
