Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My10 Octavia Wagon

Just bought my new octavia wagon in black magic, with all the extra's, Sat Nav, roof bars Etc etc.
I'v noticed that the Nav disk is 2 years out of date? Version 1 anyone recenlty purchased the same vehicle and recieved a later version?
Also on MFD the speed is in MPH when all the settings are in metric scale, can anyone assist with the setting to change this.
    Thanks
    H8

Owners manual page 17 button number 5

To change between mph and kph read page 30.

The reason the ability to show mph is there is because in Europe you must have it when you drive between the UK and the rest of Europe. The other way is to have both scales marked on the speedo face.

Yeah saw that, but didn't read through the whole thread. I'm not too fussed. Far as I can see, v3 has 1 year newer maps that v1. At least it will give me lots of version numbers to play with mine before I upgrade to something newer. That said, has anyone seen a Skoda v3 though, or is it VW v3?

I don't know if I have a bad memory, but my pre FL RS doesn't show the current speed digitally but every FL Octavia model I have had hired, (1.8TSI, 2 TDI etc) all have it. Was it something extra added in the MFD, or have I got it turned off somehow in the settings. I don't recall ever seeing it before the FL models appeared.

You should be able to see the current speed in kph in the middle of the MFD by scrolling up or down using the button on the end of the wiper stalk. If you can't you need to go into the MFD set up and make sure that that display option is ticked.

The up/down I do all the time, I don't recall there being a setting to turn it on, hence why I was asking, can anyone with a pre FL RS confirm that it works. I have a vague memory of this being added to the update.

On the FL model you go into the set up menu and tick the things that you want to see with the up/down scrolling. Can you do that with the earlier ones or do you simply have what the factory want you to look at?

I know than on the pre FL VRS I test drove the kph was there but the car was one of the later ones with the Bolero radio in it.

No speed display in the pre-FL models. Certainly nothing like that in mine. Except down in the dual zone displays if you do some tricky button pushing. I've never bothered.

Yeah that option isn't in the list Kiwi, I think it was probably since the interior update it appeared. That was my memory but just wanted to check. To be honest I find the analog guage hard to read at times, jumping in 10km/hr increments isn't that helpful either.

I hate numeric speed displays for that reason and steer as far away as possible from them.
My daughter has that display on when she drives (L plates) the car because she finds it easier to read than the real speedo so maybe irt's a generational thing.

I've been fine with other cars, it's just the SKoda has a more compressed speedo, and rather than the 5km/hr, most of them are 10km/hr, and depending on where you are sitting its not always the same. Probably more compounded by the fact that the speedo is off, so rather than have it stick on the line which is easy enough, I have to guess roughly where 100km/hr etc really is, and with the guage, you are in no mans land doing that, one more increment would have gone a long way. Having said that, I have a feeling the FL ones have a different dial, I can't remember what the most recent one I drove was like...

At least it's not like the GTI ones (not sure if the Golf is the same) It's in 10km/h increments, until 100km/h and then turns into 20km/h increments. Very annoying...
