  • MY11 Octavia

    Hi,

Is there any truth to the rumour that all MY11 Octavia (standard and RS) will come with SATNAV as standard. MY11 apparently commences with June 2010 build. Are any of the dealers aware of this?

Where did you hear that? If so, that'd be pretty darn cool!

From a Skoda dealer from a recently issue product release. Dealer mentioned it would be a major selling point over VW.

But doesn't the money go to VW Group anyway?

Oh awesome! I must admit that is quite an unusual move, especially for the base Octavia, starting at $25k, but whatever they want it sure adds alot of value! But could they PLEASE make the 17-inch alloys standard on mid-spec (2.0TDI/1.8TSI) models, makes them look so much better (for what is a $1k option too)!

I remember my dealer complaining about the prices being too high and he said that a fix was on it's way, maybe this is it? This, I feel, is where Skoda takes off in Australia (touch-wood). Two months straight of Superb Combi ads in Wheels magazine! A new Sydney dealership, Trivett Skoda in Blacktown (not that anything's there quite yet). New product, good luck to them!

Yes, it's true. A mate has an RS on order and was told the other week that it will have satnav as std (some other minor stuff too - can't remember what)

It's not the RNS 510 equivalent however but the RNS 310 equivalent so smaller screen, less features, no hard drive etc.

I was hoping the Columbus would be put onto RS' but still the Amudsen system is still quite good. No matter how big, sat-nav always adds value! Let's hope xenons and corner fogs are added to the RS .

Just checked out Skoda NZ, their RSs come standard with Xenon lights and Bluetooth. What gives? The price of $55000 maybe.

Yeah but they don't get heated seats standard.
It's just how the local distributor decides to spec the car for where they want to place it in their market. Skoda in Australia I'm sure deliberately leave out some options that most people will buy (Xenon lights and Bluetooth are obvious ones) so that they keep the published list price down but maximise profit by jacking up the price of the options that they know most people will select.
In NZ I think the vRS is marketed as a bit more of an upmarket car than the way it's pitched here so they can put extra things in and people will buy them. Remember Skodas are not new to NZ. We had them there in limited numbers through the 60's 70's and 80's.

BTW $55k NZ = $44k Aus so the price isn't as different as it appears when you compare the features.

                    Octavia 1.4 TSi

I read an article that the MY11 Octavia is now being built with the 1.4TSi to replace the 1.6ltr. Does anyone know if this is correct and what other changes will this model have?? They also mentioned a starting price of $22,990 for the manual liftback.

I tried to get some info from the main website but there is nothing on there about the MY11 models although they have already gone into production and will be here in a few short months.

It would be great to get some feedback from those in the know, if this is true you will find that coupled with the Superb Wagon this product will finally shake off its NOWHERE reputation. I think it has been canvassed quite heavily by myself and others that price and specification were the only things holding them back from recognition and success.

                    Any feedback would be great

The flip side to that is it perhaps limits their ability to sell cars off the floor if the standard specs omit popular options meaning cars generally need to be factory ordered.

The dealers can always order cars with those options for stock if they want but none seem game enough or cashed up enough to carry any more than one or two cars in the showroom.
When you go to Audi or BMW or even Subaru or Mazda the dealerships have access to a national database of available vehicles and they can see what cars are available that meet or nearly meet the specs buyers are after. They can then negotiate with the buyer over that particular car however this seems to be a big flaw in the Skoda infrastructure, no local stock and no ability to access stock in other locations.

You can understand why they don't (as frustrating as it is to wait 5 months for a car)... You don't want to get stuck with a whole lot of stock if another scare ripples through the economy.

I read that Ford has managed to put themselves back in the black by changing to a "build to order" rather than a "what we think we will sell" basis. The advantage there have of course is that they can ramp up delivery and have it in a dealership as quickly as possible after it has been built. I'd imagine that maybe the japanese makers are well placed like this too.

I thought Ford put themselves in the black by selling the most lucrative Aston Martin and Jaguar...

                              Sorry, I meant Ford Australia.

Sucks to be them. They sold Jag just as it was coming into a resurgence... Would love an XF...
