Far as I know, there have been a few people here who have the Fiscon unit and they seem to be quite OK (see threads further down). I don't really know as I have a Skoda unit (non dealer as Skoda dealers don't stock it here in Australia) The official Skoda unit that is installed by the dealers in Australia is a Nokia unit and is sold as a Skoda part.
You can get a mic that will fit in the appropriate spot in the Skoda for the Fiscon unit and is available from overseas. If you are not going the DIY route (non ebay), the Fiscon and Fiscon + units are cheaper than the VW/SKoda unit that I have (including installation)
The VW.SKoda units will work fine with the iphone, but not with S60 symbian phones and some WIndows mobile phones (phonebook and log issues that does not appear on the Fiscon). If you get the VW/Skoda full premium with rSAP bluetooth kit, the number on handsets are pretty limited.
I should get the car Saturday. I currently have a Nokia E71 which is symbian. I'll buy the new iphone4 when it comes out.
Hopefully my phone will work ok.
Thanks so much for the tips and advice on the car. We got our Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI yesterday morning.
It looks like they installed a VW bluetooth system. It's ok. Sound quality is good, and the other person on the line said it sounds like i'm talking directly into the phone.
I don't have an iphone to test with right now, but my Nokia E71 seemed to produce a little echo when ever I spoke, though the person on the other side couldn't hear it, which is good.
Otherwise the car is fantastic and drives beautifully. Its already reporting around 8.9 ltr/100 with both city and freeway driving.
Only thing we can't work out, is how to get the reverse sensor to display on the centre console, as we can only hear it now.
When we initially test drove a Skoda with reverse sensors, we could see something on the screen. Any ideas (I suppose this could go in another thread).

There is no way to turn the display on or off. If you have a Bolero then as soon as you select reverse the sensor screen should display on the Bolero and the radio should mute (not fully but noticeably). If that is not happening you should chat with the dealer.
If you have front sensors they are activiated by a switch at tne bottom of the centre console.

Thanks guys.
Congrats on the car. In VCDS, there is a check box to enable the screen for the reverse sensors. Hopefully, the dealer will be able to fix it.
Just a correction, if you have front sensors, the button in the console turns the front and rear on and off, but if you select reverse, it turns both the front and rear on, and both show in the display. The button is purely to turn it off earlier or to turn it on for parking if you aren't using reverse. 99% of the time you don't touch it.
Did anyone here get the 'factory' reverse sensors fitted here in OZ?
My car did not come from the factory with the sensors fitted. The dealer said he was putting on original Skoda factory reverse sensors.
This morning he is saying the service department has said that with this fit out there is no visual display of the sensors on the centre console, or a drop in audio when the sensors are activated. Sounds like BS to me...!
Anyway the dealer is waiting to hear from Skoda head office to see if there is another opinion.
Why do I feel like I might have gone to the wrong dealership

If you have the dealer fitted genuine sensors you will not get a display or integration into the car.
If you have the factory fitted genuine sensors you get full integration into the car.

Oh damn! So the dealer wasn't telling me a fib! Well it would have been nice if he mentioned this to us, we could have picked a car with factory fitted genuine sensors. Oh well, suppose it doesn't matter too much, at least I hear something.
So far the bluetooth system is working quite well. My wife just keeps bluetooth 'on' the phone, and when she gets in, it just works.
You should have seen the bluetooth system fitted on the new Toyota Camry (which I was driving as a company car a few months ago), full of bugs.
Just out of curiosity are the actual sensors in the bumper the same colour as the bumper? Have a good look and see if there are signs that they have veen coloured or painted.
Funny you mention that, before delivery of the car, the dealer did mention that the sensors needed to be painted.
I spoke to the dealer before and he said Skoda head office confirmed that these sensors, while genuine, cannot be integrated into the car. I will only hear the sound.
The car is great, but I'm just not happy...you know what I mean. The dealer didn't even bother to give me a full tank of fuel when I got the car, it had a little over a qtr tank.
Guess I'll have to build a bridge and get over it.
