  • Octavia Seat Belt buckle

Hi people, just want to ask a quick favour of other Octavia/RS owners - go check your drivers side and passenger side seat belt buckle ( the bit the seat belt clips into ) and see if the passenger side has a protective cover over the attachment cable or if it's exposed and you can see the wire crimp??
I seem to have a protective cover on the drivers side but not on the passenger side, and i've worded up the dealer and they ordered in a new one but it's come without the protective covering as well. Now they tell me it seems that none of the passenger sides are covered. Seems a bit strange when it rubs up against the leather of the seat, wont take long for the crimp to wear into the seat I'm sure.
I think I'll be removing it and putting some heavy duty heat shrink over the attachment cable.

covered on right. bare cable on left. penny pinching but I'd figure my driver:passenger ratio is 5:1

Yep mine is the same 08 build , another bit of cost saving , car co's are good at hiding little savings here and there , bit odd, logic would be not many left front passsengers so why bother with cover , but in euro shes the drivers seat , cant see them doing a switch for rhd markets , strange

I've often wondered this myself-mines an 07 build and the same as above.

I wondered about it too. Covered for driver, cable for passenger...

I thought about putting some heat shrink on it, but have not figured out how as yet, without dismantling the whole thing.

Now if anyone know how to change the glovebox bulb without taking the whole glovebox out, please let me know...

They did it for the park brake and the ticket holder.... Maybe it's a Skoda thing... (that they do change it around, because VW and Audi don't)

                Think it through logically.
The majority of Skodas sales would be left hand drive vehicles. If they didn't change items around (like for example the Bolero control knobs) they would be set up for LHD and we would be getting bits that were on the wrong side for us. There is way more cost and effort involved in changing the wipers to RHD than there is in swapping the seat beat clips.
Now back to topic as anybody looked to see if the LHS and RHS clips are the same? It may simply be a case of ordering a RHS clip for those who are paranoid and want the protective cover.

Sorry, I meant that it was nice that Skoda actually change a few bits and pieces around for us RHD'ers considering that most Euros don't. I'd have expected them to save the money by leaving things as they are, rather than creating new parts like the park brake console for both LHD and RHD. I would have thought that LHD would be the default Skoda rather than the RHD versions.

It's more curiosity for me as to what they do rather than me being indignant or offended that they did this or that...

Just out of interest I notice that my seat belt retainers have made in Hungary stamped on them. If I get bored enough one day I might go around the car and see how many countries I can find.
My last Land Rover had UK, Austria, Japan and France all visible in various places and I know that the centre diff was made in the USA.

I noticed that on my old GTI, they put felt behind the seat belt buckle, while in the skoda, they put felt on the centre box itself. Would have thought that, that would cost more, but I'm not complaining

Doesn't make any sense, the seatbelt can move up and down and backwards and forwards so it would make sense as you said to just have it on the seatbelt rather than having to cover a large area of the centre console.

Lots of things don't make sense, the whole area in the footwell on the left hand side is also covered with felt. It was just plastic on the GTI

For those that might wish to purchase a 2nd ticket holder for the LHS, I belive the part number is one of these:
                              1Z0 867 159 or 1Z0 867 159 A
