  • Oil sticky

Checked my oil this morning and its pretty much getting into the min level, its been 6mths since its service, so they either were tight with the oil or at 20k it's still eating some.

Anyway once again I'm trying to figure out what oil to keep for topups, and after trawling through past posts, still have no clue. Can someone make a sticky with compliant (as in the higher compliance) oils to get for the various SKodas?

I have the Pre FL Octavia RS, so any advice there would be great as I want to go get some today and top it up.

Just checking what Richmond Audi/Skoda put in and on my receipt is has SLX Professional OE, I could be wrong, but is this even compliant? They charged just over $100 for it as well.

I'm thinking it will be the same as for the GTI (since it's the same engine). VW 504.00/507.00 (petrol/diesel)

      50400-50700

Mine is using about 300ml every 2000k , which iam told is quite normal .

Went to sprint auto and got castrol edge sport 5w-30 , not cheap 1L is about $20.00

This is the closest to factory spec , for turbo's , fully synthetic .

Mine has used oil from day one , as did my gti mk4 , maybe because i do a lot of short city trips daily .

If you want a great quality oil, by an Australian company that is compatable with the specs. and at the best price you can t go past the Penrite Enviro 5.
I have been running this or Penrite Sin 10 in both my cars and bikes for years and highly recomend it.

In my old GTI, I noticed that it used oil all the time when I was using Shell. When I switched to Repsol, I didn't have to top up for about 7500km (when I change the oil)

Castrol Edge Sport is cheap when SuperCheap has a sale... Usually 5L for about $40... Mobil One is still around the $99 mark for 5L...

So it depends on what oil you use, but in general, turbo cars, short trips will usually use oil...

Penrite Enviro+ 5W30 is suitable for all VW engines it has VW504.00/507.00 approval. You can get it in 1L and 5L bottles and it is made overseas (I'm not sure where).

Why do you recommend Penrite? I'm not going to argue, just wondering.

Castrols site was playing up and mavericks list doesn't have it but doing a google search showed up that the slx professional oe is a newer "topshelf" oil so I'm guessing it's ok and is maybe just newer than the LIII that most places mention?

I use it in my workshop, they have very comprehensive range of lubricants. We may even will see the DSG fluid from Penrite. Most likely imported from OS.

What makes you believe that it is better than many other brands? I ask because i want your opinion, not to cut you down. You seem to be quite knowledgeable on oils etc.

I didn't say it was better than any other brand. It is better to use Penrite Enviro+ 5W30 than other not approved oil that only meets or is made to VW specs. There is negligible difference between VW504.00/507.00 oils and the Penrite Enviro+ is half the price of the Castrol equivalent oil.

At the moment all our cars are using ELF Solaris LLX 5W30 (except T5) since I bought 208L of it, but will use Penrite once the stock runs out.

My vRS uses a bit of oil.

Basically, in my mind, I can't expect to drive it as I do, and not expect it to burn some. So far I am adding between 500ml and 750ml per 10,000km. I know that those numbers would scare the sh*t out of some people, I just don't care. When I picked the car up I bought a 5 Litre bottle of Castrol Edge Sport for around $40. At this rate, oil top ups between services will cost me less than $40. Cheap in my books.

Ok, so it's half the price and just as good.

                            Good enough for me! Cheers.

A early Gen III Chev V8 Commodore owner would be more than happy with those no.s . I know someone who bought one and was using 500ml every 1,000 km.
