Correct. But it appears the dealers take the shortcut and dont put in the wiring loom for this function. Dad and I both had tow bars fitted to our vRS's and took then back as the sensors are supposed to be disabled when the trailer is connected.......However they couldn't work it out and basically played dumb saying they didn't know how to make it work.

Did your come with the trailer prep installed TuNeS? Much as I like my dealer, I know that they (the service centre) would not know everything. They rarely have access to VCDS as the system they use are more specific to servicing the car. Just wondering if it is just a setting to be enabled via VCDS (like the cornering foglights on the facelifted version)

There was a code identification page I put up somewhere that shows whether the trailer prep is on your car or not, (Whether it was ordered or not)

I'll see if I can find it again. (Just curious, whether it's missing something physical or not) I'm on Briskoda too, but unfortunately for us, their cars are usually a lot less equipped (ie need options) than ours as a base car.

The important code is the second one.
1D7 = Trailer hitch preparation
1D0 = without towing attachment

I am not sure to be honest. I am doubtful as I ordered myn in the first shipment from stock already on the boat as I was happy with standard spec. How do I find that code? Or is it something the dealer has to do?

It's in the front page of your service manual... It should have a whole list of 2 character codes, and this should be the second one..

At least you know you have it. The difficulty is whether the service centre will know what to do with it... Good luck with it!

That's what worries me. They tried to fix dads and now the reversing graphic doesnt work on the Bolero when in reverse and the sensors stay on.

Perhaps try calling around to another Skoda (or perhaps VW) service centre.

Perhaps someone with VCDS near you can run a scan on yours and your dad's car to see if there's any errors, perhaps even turn on the graphic on your dad's car?

1st thanks for all the replies & info in regards to Towing, Towbars etc for the Scout, lots of useful info on this & BrisSkoda forums

Just had my first drive of the Scout and was very pleased, also found it a little more compact, which I preferred (being used to the Impreza), than the Outback diesel

I checked the codes both on the Demo & a new stock in the showroom, both 2009 builds, and both had the 'ID7' code which indicates that the wiring is there for towing although I was still quoted $1,800 !! to fit a towbar

I understand that with the 'ID7' code that all that is required to fit a towbar is to bolt it on and 'plug' the wiring in and no need to run wires up to the fuse box etc

Hopefully I will be able to get a good deal and will soon be driving a Scout

The joys of buying a less familiar car! My Scout has the ID7 code - so trailer prep. I have a Thule lightboard (basically a taillight repeater you strap onto the bike rack), and rang my dealer to see if they could fit it. Firstly they told me they couldn't but, whebn I showed I knew a little, they suggested I come in as, as far as I've been able to make out, it's simply a matter of tweaking the CANBUS coding for it to work.....

After doing some of my own research on the briskoda forums when I bought the car in October, apparently there are two wiring looms when a towbar is fitted that come from the factory. One for operation of the lights and another which connects to the ECU to enable a different engine mapping profile while towing which also disables the rear sensors. It is a lot of work to do this if the wiring loom isn't installed on build. I also get the bulb warning light on the dash while towing too......another thing I researched on briskoda which isnt anything to worry about. The specifics I cannot remember completely as I researched it ages ago, however if you go through briskoda you will find the info.

I only tow a go kart and reversing is short and sweet so am not too worried. I honestly cant be bothered for the argument with the dealership for something which doesn't bother me that much.

Oh I'm having a similar problem with my vRS, except the trailer lights dont work as advertised and the reversing sensors dont dis-engage. If the dealership has short tracked by not fitting both looms or not re-programming the ECU for the trailer config, they will be getting a right royal ear full!! I have to take my RS back down to Sydney and take a day off work for this to be fixed. I have a short tolerance for mechanics if they are f@#kin lazy, I work on mutli-million dollar aircraft and dont skip corners so why should a basic car mechanic have a drama with wiring up a simple loom.

I was checking out my bluetooth install coding with VCDS and noticed that there is a section called 10-Park/Steering Assist or something similar.
Under that, there was an option (Under Long Coding) that has a bit dedicated to turning on and off the Park Assist Graphic. Perhaps someone with VCDS can check this out for your dad's car.

Have been trying to repack/reconfigure my boat trailer to meet the low 75kg towball limit for the Scout and unfortunitly this couldn't be done.

Instead I've just pulled the trigger on a VW Tiguan 103 TDI 6spd manual (with Comfort pack) which is in stock and should pick it up next week
At least its still in the 'family'

I could be really wrong, but I had a feeling the 75kg thing was across the VAG range, it's not limited to Skoda.
