Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I always find a lot of good ideas and good advice in this section Bodywork/Trim & Detailing otherwise Maverick is dead right about protecting the clear coat, do nothing and you will end up with a dull paint after several years.

1 - Tinting, I will probably get this because it is on our Golf and we like tinted cars. But undecided between Street Legal or UVShield - any idea??? about $600-$700

2 - X-Pack basically a vehicle protection pack - paint / leather / carpet and vinyl. The brochure has to many buzz words for my liking... "Self Cleaning Titanium Dioxide" about $1100 - is this worth it???

3 - Smart Advantage - a cosmetic repair insurance costs $600-$700 basically for 3yrs if we scratch, minor dint the paint work or scuff the wheels it will cost $55 to repair. Again dont know if it is worth it...

        .
Get in touch with either CarCareProducts.com.au or waxit.com.au (waxit is up your way) they will have a sealant for your paint plus products for carpet/upholstery, etc. Something like Wolfgang sealant would be pretty good

Tint should be about $300-$400 for whatever you want.

The other stuff..... read the PDS but I don't think it worth it. save your money & buy the extended factory warranty when your car hits 34months old

Hmm I didn't think there was an extended factory warranty, moreso an aftermarket one offered by Skoda?

Maybe if you are interested, call the dealer and ask for the pds before you pickup so you can have a good read without the sales spin.

I'd also call some local tint places for a price, get the dealer to match it. Chances are it's the same company :p. More convenien to have it done by the dealer but not worth double the price.

I'm waiting on my Octavia and am debating an invisible car bra... But a good wax every 3 or 4 months had all my new cars in very good nick when we parted.

              Check out this guide.

I followed this and use Dodo Super Natural Wax, Dodo Born to be Mild shampoo, dodo lime prime wax prep/light polish, dodo red mist and dodo clay bar/lube. I have also sealed my wheels and interior with nanolex. My car gets re-waxed every 5 months and looks better now than the day i bought it. You get out what you put in.

This all cost me about $500 and I enough product to do it many times over for well over the next 3 years. The cost that the dealers charge you is a rip off. It will only last a year and unless you get it done again, your paint will end up dull after a few years and is prone to chips....etc. Stay away from the gutters and your wheels will be scratch free.

                Dude,

I broke my vRS in like this.

Although I didn't cane it for the first 4000km I still drove it briskly, then I just started driving it however I like. I always make sure the engine oil and coolant is up to temp before a get into it though. (the climate control diagnostics are good to check this out)

Hasn't proven to be any worse for wear, and it's quick too. Pulled a 15.3 1/4 Mile @ 160km/h with a full tank of juice, about 50kg of work equipment, my golf clubs and the air con on and 90kg of me driving.

Personally I don't buy into the after sales accessories that the dealer offers.

Paint Protection from a dealer isn't necessary, any good detailer can cover your needs in that area a darn sight cheaper than a dealer ever could, if you still want paint and trim protection.

And Window Tint, never, ever costs $700 for a car like an Octavia, I mean your not tinting a Stretch Limo or a Coach, so why pay prices like that? Call any tinting place, and they will quote around half of what the dealer is charging you. And they will give you whatever tint you like, and the reputable places offer warranties, three years or lifetime.... something like that.

Best of luck with the new ride.
