I was reading a the Dec Wheels (or maybe the Jan), it was ridiculously biased towards VW and the Golf, they even had an article about the Gti for no real reason. In every article comparing a VW car against anything else, it went to the VW car everytime, whether it was really merited or not.

I do realise this is a VW forum, but I think since the Mk V Golf journos are all playing sheep at the moment and not being as objective as they should be. Sometimes what they write is fair, other times it was so one eyed it's not funny.

On another note, I heard the JD Power surveys were coming to Oz, but I never got one, so was there any merit to that, those kind of things are worth paying attention to. I don't think Skoda would get quite the praise the UK Skoda guys do over here, and it would draw some serious attention from the Skoda HQ as to why.

Agree 100%. The rear end is so boring. Even the new Golf R isn't aggressive enough. That said, there's a massive queue for both. The target audience for both aren't 25 year old rev heads, they are middle aged blokes with the cash to splash on a top of the line hatch and visual aggression might put them off.

Hang on a second! I'm rapidly approaching middleage (depending on your definition), I finally have the cash to splash and I wanted something a bit different. That's why I have upped the order from an optioned-up Octavia to the RS - a splash of aggression (wheels, front end, not fussed about the spoiler) - but still refined and classy.

Its pretty refined compared to a HSV or EVO though And I'm saying that VW probably intentionally keep the flagship golfs understated. I think exactly the same of the Octavia RS. It looks nice, but doesn't attract too much attention. After having an XR6 turbo my wife got hassled a bit - I actually removed the badge as just that was enough to encourage tools (and she by her own admission didn't require much encouragement to make them look stupid in the traffic light grand prix ).

Agree 100%. I like that they are refined and stylish, but not over the top. A lot people say the latest M3 is underdone.....however I think its the best one yet! I also prefer the new mk VI GTI too.

Oh, and i'm still in my 20's.
