Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Wow...that's an expensive "Octavia"

Noticed this item on eBay this morning, and thought "wow...I wouldn't pay that, and it's not even an RS".

Of course once I looked at the photo's all was explained. Tee hee.

Though as one of the photos shows the car clearly parked in a Škoda dealer's lot, it doesn't say much for the competence of that dealer (insert obligatory Tassie joke here...)

Talk about a waste of effort. If you don't know what you are selling how can you sell it?

So what happens if you buy the car, and the real Octavia turns up? You quickly look for the ad again and find the images changed...

As well as being a Superb and not an Octavia, I doubt very much that it is actually a 2008 build car either. Maybe the price and the photos are the only things they got right ?
2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

I noticed on Ebay that there was a "Skoda Octavia Elegance" that was clearly a VRS (in fact the white VRS with the VIC number plate "Skoda", which appears in carsales (correctly identified as a VRS). Description is correct.

Looks to me like the plate says SA and the car is located in Adelaide. I assume that it's either a dealer demo or was used during the bicycle race in January.

It's also left hand drive according to the specs on Ebay.

Stupid brain! I've made the mistake about 4 times previously because that car has been on carsales for months!

                  Really bright Superb

Check out the link to the Yellow Superb Elegance, no wonder the dealers can't sell the product on mass, they have no idea what their selling

The description appears to fit a Superb - 7 speed transmission, bi-xenon headlamps, umbrella holder, 1.8L engine, etc.

The price, however, is wrong on both accounts. The description claims only 99kms, but the Superb Elegance drives away for just over $50K, so that surely would have an asking price of around that mark, even if "second hand". On the flipside, the RS pictured is pre-pre-FL (old interior as well), with manual transmission, so $44.5K is waaaaay too much for that.

Whoever is selling this car has no idea.

There is a silver Superb in the background of the first shot. I would say that the company who took the photos either swapped them around (there is possibly a Yellow VRS about to be advertised with Silver photos) or they just plain shot the wrong car.

When I was in the business it happened from time to time that they swapped photos and descriptions but in those days it was film so there was no way of checking until it's too late. Now it should simply be a routine thing before the ad goes to the web site.

Hmm...yes, that's probably it - everyone makes the odd mistake. At that rate, $45K for a Superb Elegance with only 90-odd Kms on the dial is a pretty decent price. I wonder what is wrong with it?

Using the dealer number, you can usually figure out where a carsales car is. It looks like those two cars are at Southern Classic Cars in Wollongong.

So this is the Superb (with no photos) for $44,550:

And this is the yellow RS (accompanied by photos of the Superb?) for $37,750:
