They have been trying to get the Fabia here full stop. Apparently Skoda CZ won't sell it to them cheap enough to compete here.

Fabia

New FL Fabia is now available in Europe. Again it is amazing that how cheaper it is there. 1.2 TSI/63kW Fabia (slightly detuned version) starts at like AU$17,000 when current exchange rate is aplied. Surely, it does not cost that much for cars to be transported here??

Also I have heard though that Fabia RS is only available with DSG. No manual yet.

Wow - the hatch looks terrific. And that performance is hard to complain about!

The wagon version looks very awkward from the rear

You need to keep in mind that base model cars in Europe have way less equipment than here they don't even have spare wheels. When you spec up a European base car to the level of trim that an Australian model has the gap narrows considerably.

It's funny that we are almost 12 months on and a significantly stronger $Aud and Skoda Oz are not even close to releasing this car.

I have been shouted down and belittled on this forum on several occasions in relation to 'negative feedback' but surely even the die hards can see the holes on this story?!

I also see that the overall 2010 figures are down 30% odd over 2009, something I predicted mid year and got shouted down for.

It is truly dissappointing to see a brand with soooo much potential remain stale and stagnent in what was one of the most plentiful years the Euro products gave ever seen. It is clear the current trajectory is off course, whether the Skoda Oz hierachy realise or not they are on a hiding to nothing as it stands.

You and I both know it's rubbish Jake, I've tried to have normal conversations on here but no one interacts unless I am being antagonistic, I think younay have proved my point

I'm glad I was proven wrong but I am honestly shocked they haven't done better, the price reductions plus the additional added features e.g. Superb Elegance getting leather and Nav as standard, Octavia getting TSi and price reductions should have seen the sales at leaast double to 2400 units annually but there's hope for 2011.

I do think my comments about the Fabia and Yeti are valid, our dollar is $1.03 against the green back and the highest it has ever been against the Euro. If you can't justify bringing these models now (and this us ledgitamately the real reason) then I dare say they NEVER have these models in Oz. I feel that VW Oz are restricting the brands growth here, they do not want a meteoric ruse from Skoda so it is being muzzled so big brother can keep growing. We get the rubbish story that Skoda are working very hard to get these models here but in reality they have no say, they are controlled by VW in every aspect. Before I cancelled the RS I spoke to HQ and the guy was telling me they are Skoda but worf for, and still have roles within VW, it was clear they were not independant in anyway.

A year in new cars is a long time , hopefully 2011 will see them kick a few more goals?!

I'd love to see the source of those numbers they run contrary to everything else I've seen about Skoda sales figures in 2010.

You must remember that Skoda in NZ has always had a higher profile than in Australia. Communist Skodas were still available in NZ right up till the late 1970's at least albeit in small numbers. As a brand most NZ'ers would know of Skoda while relatively few Australians do. On top of that Skoda is imported into NZ by a distributor (Giltrap's) not by the factory. Distributors have different pricing models and marketing methods than factories. I'm sure that if Giltraps go to the factory with a handful of money they get what they want whereas if Skoda Australia want something it becomes a political decision with the VW group unrelated to anything outside group politics.

I must admit I was unaware that the profile of Skoda was higher in NZ, I thought they were in mirroring circumstances as us, riding off the success of VW and working as a manufacturer import so this is news for me and good to know, certainly explains things.

As fir the politics you mentioned, that is something I have suspected for a while now and find it hard to understand. This conflict has been a constant globally but has nit been suppressed anywhere other than here. It us something they would have easily foreseen and it seems stupid to launch a brand only to deliberately strangle it?!
