Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • First time in a vrs

    hi all,

A work mate of mine has been shopping for a new golf gti or an A3 sportback lately but turned up today with a current spec vrs. We went for a blast in it & I gotta say it's an impressive bit of kit. There are some areas of the interior where it is lacking compared to the golf but for the money this is a great car.

He's taking this one back & going to try a tdi vrs wagon before he puts any cash down.

    cheers

Interesting comment. I've got two mates with MkV Golfs (one is a GT TDI) who both say they think the vRS interior is much better than theirs.
What areas were you thinking about?

If your colleague wants any further information or anything, I am more than happy to help.

You might have seen my yellow vRS getting around the base too.... Iv'e had almost 20,000km in mine and don't regret it one bit over a golf GTI.

Don't get the wrong idea, i think the interior is great & it's only little things that I noticed & I was being picky.

Small things like no soft close on the hand grips, no courtesy light on the passenger sunvisor mirror & a couple of other little things that I'm used to.

But otherwise everything was so familiar in such a good way.

And thanks for the offer Calis, i'll let him know & yes i've seen your yellow beast on base

        cheers

I was just curious. I notice the same sort of things when comparing our Skoda to our S3 although there are a couple of things I think the Skoda excels in particularly the plentiful storage compartments.

There are hidey holes everywhere. We lost our GPS for a week until we remembered the draw under the passenger seat

I drove a Tdi A3 last time I went around QLD for work, and within minutes was actually really disappointed how poorly equiped it was. It was more expensive to hire than an A4 and a lot more than the Octavias. I think the biggest let down was it didn't have cruise control, I haven't been in a car for years without it. The engine and gearbox and general handling were good, but it was pretty plain inside.

Anyway didn't make that mistake again, just hired the Tdi Octavia and it was a world of difference.
