I'd be happy with any of them, and in wet i'd prefer the SP, one of the tyre sites rates the SP of the GT which are new, but the customer feedback is limited on the GT. Its interesting how Skoda vary them, its obvious what they have in stock at the time.

Except for really special high performance or oddball stuff all European manufacturers change what tyres are fitted regularly. BMW's and Audi's of the same type sitting in car show rooms can have different tyres quite often.
As well as cost I suspect that it's a way of keeping in good with all tyre manufacturers (spread the $ around) to ensure ongoing support with development and suspension tuning.
Imagine if car manufacturer A was exclusively linked to tyre manufacturer B and then tyre manufacturer C suddenly produced a revolutionary tyre that was not available to company A. Or worse if it became apparent the tyre manufacture B was producing a substandard product (no I did NOT say Goodyear!) and EVERY car from car company A had to be recalled.

Umm, I dont know if you know this but Goodyear and Dunlop are all made in the same factories these days as they merged years ago.

I got the Continental SportContacts. Picked up two weeks ago Friday, so probably on the boat before Backdocs, and the boat after Kiwi's, and we all got different tyres.

I did have a bit of a chuckle though when I saw the slogan on the Conti's "Engineered in Germany" - like it was some sort of precision machinery (well, I guess they kinda are, but still, tyres...)

Also mine seems to sit quite a bit lower - I can't really see the tread on mine without turning the wheels so the tyres stick out (was checking the morning...had to do it by feel), although that could just be a trick of the light/camera.

Anyway, congrats, and Friday will be here before you know it!

So where are they actually made? The last Continentals we had came from South Africa.

Edit: Just looked at the Dunlops. It says "Made in Germany" on the sidewalls.

Only about 4 hours, and thank god it stopped raining. I really didn't want to pick it up in the rain!

It poured the day I got mine. And it poured a few years back when I picked up my 6, was a dark rainy night....not really the time you want to be in an unfamiliar car.

The Skoda was at midday but it was raining and slow at 40km/hr all the way home. All I wanted to do was take it on the freeway...so when i got home I did that...only to forget that the monash was mostly 70-80 due to roadworks...

Same here rain on delivery must be a Skoda thing. The only difference was that the Monash wasn't that busy at 3pm on Christmas eve.

Excellent question - it doesn't say on them anywhere where they're *actually* made. I read all the tiny text (who know they could fit near-essay-length warnings on the side wall of a low-profile tyre!), and nothing. Just the "Tyres Engineered in Germany" in big lettering. You're right though, it would say "Made in Germany" if it was, indeed, made in Germany. Who knows, it's probably on the inside sidewall

I have never seen a tyre that didn't have "made in.." somewhere on it.

Just checked the Pirellis on my Scout, and there isn't a visible "made in..." on the tire - but they are many numerical codes, which I'm sure would allow iit to be chased down to Country/factory/batch.

PS. Yup - code indicates the Torinese Plant in Turin.....

Well got it. Few minor hiccups but that will get sorted next week. I am very impressed thus far. The quality is certainly at VW level or better (never had an Audi so can't comment on them) and the doors close with a reassuring thud. Euro Number plates look the biz and the Candy White and black leather interior is stunning.

Also I did get the Dunlop GTs so I guess that is a good thing?

Will keep you updated with a few pics on Monday after I get the tint done.
