  • Number plate tape?

    Hey guys,

dealer has given me the ok to adhere the plates myself. Now, I couldn't find the posts that discussed this so could any one give me a heads up please on what tape to use?

I remember someone mentioning 3M tape but not sure if that was the best.

    Thanks

The 3M double sided tape is the best I ever used. It will hold the no. plates easy. You can get it from the Paint Suppliers and similar.

Bunnings also has it, make sure its the Genuine 3M one, not the knock, the red stuff and the outdoors stuff, If the plate is flat it doesnt take much to hold it on but if its curved, like on the front of the R36, i had to do it again and cover the entire back of the plate to ensure it didnt start to lift off

Yeah that's what I got from Bunnings. I did 4 vertical strips on the 4 flat parts of the Euro plate (btw the number/letter pressings). So far so good but the front bumper is also curved so I'll see how the edges go. I gently bent the plate first to match the contour of the bumber but the plate cover that clips to that is applying a straightening force so we'll see if the tape or the cover wins over the next few weeks.

I wish I had a choice, stupid me just pulled my custom plates of the 6 and handed it to them, and found they just drilled through them. Not sure if there are already holes in the Skoda which they match, or if all the holes get drilled using the plates in place. Either way, if I don't get another VAG car next time, my custom plates have holes, and the new replacements would need holes as well. Wish they were just stuck on.

Silly me too. They just drilled straight into the tailgate and front bumper on myn. I was very upset at first, but i'm over it now. I made them rust proof the holes they drilled in the tailgate and apply touch up paint around the hole which gets covered by the plate. You wouldnt know unless I told you.

I can recommend http://www.lakinplates.com.au/ and their plate holders.
Granted, they are expensive, but the fit and finish is impeccable.

I second that, especially for euro plates! The brackets screw directly into the factory mounting holes and then you just need to drill two small holes in the top corners of the plates. So no ugly holes thru the middle of the plate or into the bumper or boot lid.

FYI, I have no financial interest in this company. I'm just really happy with their product.

I've not looked behind either plate, but do the sedans come with predrilled holes or is it likely, that they drilled them all in one?

There are holes in the front bumper so I would be confident that there would be holes in the rear as well.

You can see one of the front holes in the pic below.

Old thread, but does anyone know what size the screws are for the number plate holes on the Skoda Octavia?

Thanks for the recommendation. I've seen a couple of Octavias around with holes drilled through Euro plates - and one car where the rear plate was at an obvious angle - knowing my luck, I would also get the apprentice and his shaky hands... Didn't pay $400 for euro plates for the dealer to just drill holes through them, let alone through my brand new car, which is worth just a little bit more!

Anyway, after looking at the site and seeing they have the brackets for the RS - plus photos of a satisfied customer's RS, I placed my order.
