Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'm not sure whether other people have discovered this but my e-tag works perfectly inside the storage box on top of the dash.
No more silly white thing stuck to the windscreen.

Yeah a few others have mentioned that....I want mine off the screen as I need to use it in QLD every few months.

I found this out on the way home from picking it up. I had no bracket for it so threw it in there and left the lid up. Wife closed the lid and still worked-it's been there ever since.

Does anyone know whether this works in Sydney as well? I attached mine to the windscreen of my Scout in the "dotted area" behind the rear view mirror and, of course, it didn't work first time I tried.....

Seeing as the tags work all over the country I guess they are the same basic technology so it most likely will work. You have to make sure that the windscreen side of the tag is facing up when it's in the storage box.

Thanks - I'll try it next time. And if it doesn't work, hopefully I can try a different spot within the dotted area.

I don't think that the tags will work behind those dots. I think there may be some metallic content in them that screws the e-tag signal up.

Thanks again - great how the instructions here in NSW specifically say to place the tage in the dotted area.......

The tag works fine behind the dots, both in NSW and in Victoria. I've driven my Superb on tollways in both states with the tag attached and got a bill for it.

Can't argue with that. They wouldn't work there on my last car and they apparently don't work there for Inego. I guess he will need to try another position.

The etag works fine behind the dots in my VW, haven't tried it out on my Octy as I haven't driven the Octy on any toll roads (yet).

When I rechecked the insructions, I realised that the tag is closer than 7cm (!) to the top of the screen, which may be the problem. I'll ask the RTA for two bases so I can try different positions.

I actually use the top storage box for my Navman. It fits perfectly and having it open doesn't obstruct my vision at all.
