  • Columbus /RNS510 Sat Nav - Traffic

Does anybody know when the traffic function will be active in Australia? It would be nice to be able to actually use the sat nav system to it's full potential...

There is a traffic service in Australia called SUNA. You have to pay some sort of subscription to use it I believe. I know that there are TomTom and Garmin units that can connect but I have no idea about the Columbus.

Their service is broadcast over an FM frequency, here in Perth it's piggybacked onto Nova's frequency. My MFD2 supports the traffic service, however the maps that skoda provided (from whereis) don't have the feature supported. So be worth checking if your map data supports it as well. I still have enquire about their updated maps, so might have changed by now

Hmm I turned on the traffic thing in the audience unit once but didn't think it worked.

I suspect that the nav database needs to be revised to take the traffic stuff into consideration.

I had a Navman and the database got upgraded and once I added the radio receiver (which the RNS already has) it worked a treat.

I am keen to get it too.

If you want the Suna service you have to buy a Falcon with Sat Nav, last time I looked they were the only manufacturer offering the service with their car.

As stupid as it sounds our money is subsidising a service that refuses to offer subscriptions but will only sell the service with new hardware, this short sighted decision not only means no constant revenue stream but minimises the return.

Even if Skoda start offering the service you would need to buy a new car to make use of it.

But don't worry because the product is rubbish and runs way behind, despite receiving a heap of government money and access to taxpayer funded system to monitor traffic they can't actually transmit updates in time and nor are they useful.

You can't use the service at all because it's encrypted, the service works fine in the EU (where it isn't encrypted and the encryption used it supported by the RNS 510/Columbus).

Far better off using googles traffic because it's actually live and useful.
