Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Prefer not to bag a skoda dealer on here particularly given that others seem to have had good experiences with them so I've PM'd the details/experiences

      I would have paid full retail price + $2,000 for an RS wagon with AWD and bi-Xenons (just so long as it also had a 2.0 TFSI engine and 6 speed manual gearbox) !!!!
      2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

        They have two of what I presume were their demo vehicles in the used car yard there at the moment. One is a yellow wagon (VR I think) and the other is a silver hatch. Both pre facelift of course. They may be getting desperate enough to offer somebody a bargain deal to get rid of the by now.

          I will never forget them telling friends of mine who live there that they can't demo the RS they had as the accountant had it for a week. I saw it that very day down at Knox with what I presume was the accountants daughter doing laps and hanging out with some bogans outside JB Hifi. Yep looks like they clearly had their priorities right, I'm guessing the accountant didn't know that his daughter shouldn't be driving it with the p plates she had either.

            Pretty sure the yellow was only available on the vRS so that could be a bargain for someone.

            Depends when she got her P's-if it was before the current laws then she can drive it as it falls beneath the old power to weight figure. My 20 year old daughter falls into this group as well. Does anyone else think it odd that a p plater can't legally drive a petrol RS but can drive the diesel? Turbo Diesels are ok apparently.

              Hmm I thought it was all turbos bar a few exclusions? None the less I didn't think it was very professional to deny test drives while she was out cruising KFC with her friends.

                In many car dealerships the Dealer Principals daughter is an untouchable princess who gets what she wants and nobody in the sales dept can argue or disagree. The DP's daughter ranks second only to the DP's wife in terms of people that you do not upset and if either or both have been given company cars the best thing a salesman can do is to assume that those vehicles do not exist until they are eventually returned to the lot.

                  So where does the Accountant's daughter rank ? (besides the obvious "higher than would be purchasers" )

                    I can't rate our dealer enough. Two test drives, an overnight stay and then an all day loan as well when my wife and I had the day off together. And I when I delivered the bad news that I had to postpone my order, he gave us the keys to a Superb! My wife wasn't fussed over the Skoda, but the dealer's attitude means this is the only car she wants. Colin at Lennock, Phillip.

                    Now I just have to get back to Australia and order the thing...

                      Agreed.

                      FYI-this from the Vicroads website:

                      A probationary licence holder cannot drive a vehicle if it has:

                      An engine of eight or more cylinders;
                      a turbocharged or supercharged engine (except diesel powered vehicles. Exemptions can apply for lower performance turbo and supercharged cars);
                      an engine that has been modified to increase its performance; and/or
                      any of the following high performance six cylinder vehicles as published in the Government Gazette:
                      Also:

                      Probationary drivers may apply to drive vehicles with 6 cylinders or less that are:

                      turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio of less than 100kW per tonne;
                      turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio between 100kW and 125kW per tonne and that are considered to be a family type vehicle (4 seats or more) rather than a sports type vehicle
                      The Skoda Octavia RS wagon is about 105kw/tonne from memory.
