Picked up today, first thing this morning.

Couldnt be happier to drive off in my new RS.

In one day, I covered 250km running suddenly "urgent" errands just to get back behind the wheel.

I spent roughly half an hour getting acqainted with the MFD and the sub menus and audio options. Then just drove, enjoying the turbo feeling and smooth power.

I really am looking forward to driving this everyday!

Has anyone here had sheepskin seat inserts made to cover the inside of the driver and passenger seats as to still leave the bolsters uncovered? I fear for the white suede sections wearing a military uniform day in day out!!!

    Cheers!

Dont worry about the seats , i wear denims everyday not a sign of wear and its still white , much better than my last effort liberty with leather ,cream, bugger to keep clean and looked like crap when i traded it .

These are very comfy seats , i love the long squab ,being tall ,great on a long trip .

Enjoy the drive , get out on the B roads and give it a blast .

She likes the 500 sport and the Punto sport.
Congrats on the RS-you'll love it!

I would have bought a Punto-but it's my wifes car and she put a deposit on a 500 sport last monday. Yellow so it will match the RS.

I might be up in the Blue Mountains next March Calais-I'll look out for you if I am. If you see a yellow RS wagon with black roof rails-that's me.

When I took one for a test drive a couple weeks ago, I suddenly felt the same urge to run a few errands around town, zip down the highway for a few more ... the 30min loop suddenly turned into 2hours of driving. Couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Coming from a Subie forester xs, the Occy RS is another world of driving.

I'm probably being a bit overzealous, but I'd like consider myself a new RS owner given I ordered one yesterday - black manual wagon TFSI. If not strictly speaking an owner (yet), then certainly a convert!

Dealer has said Jan/Feb (damn VGA's built to order scheduling and 3mth delay) but I'm hoping there is one already on a boat that could head my way.

                  Hi LOOBIE

congrats on your purchase , you will love the rs , it grows on you .

One year on and its better than new , grunt galore , with magic economy .

My interest is why so many subaru drivers are buying skoda , i went from a liberty 3.0r wagon , and now you , jake 02 is another .

I liked the liberty except for the **** economy and the lousy sporty hahaha auto slush box/tiptronic , never knew which gear it wanted to be in .

Dont forget to get out on the B roads ,thats where the rs really comes alive

                  cheers

I sure did. I had a MY00 Liberty wagon, and after 8 years things were starting to piss the family off - like the clutch, which because its a hill-holder clutch on the manuals, cost a bomb when servicing and had a short lifespan and the car didn't move anywhere near as fast as it did in 2000, so dad (plus I, from numerous friends getting new cars - I wanted something to show off!) finally gave in the towel and asked me what we should get (of course, Skoda was a brand that immediately sprang to mind) and went looking.

We chose the Skoda because I thought it to be similar to the Subaru. The boot-space is similar (eg big) and both brands put dynamics at the top of their checklist. The Skoda, I later found out, was exactly the same price as we paid in 2000 for the Subaru, and that represents how much more you get these days!

The main reason though, was the fuel economy. Even with the turbo and 50 more kW and 100 more Nm, the Skoda uses 2L/100km less around town than the Subaru did! Also, the lack of 6-speed manuals was a big negative when looking at the 2008 Subaru range. 3.0R/GT's were abit too expensive so we were limited to the 2.5L...

Even looking at the new RS at my dealer the other day, a family with an old Outback came in...maybe they know the new Liberty/Outback is awful? (Y)

Hi SB ! If your words are true (about the RS growing on the owner) which I don't doubt from the other positive words from owners here, I'm going to be a very happy dude.

I'd guess that subie owners value reliability and strong core engineering. Subaru may be missing a few people in their design & materials (interior) departments, but they certainly make solid cars. And they seem to be getting the drift of late re: efficiency being a higher priority with prospective owners.

Skoda, given the VW underpinnings and injection of tech & $ assistance getting their factories to world-class, can comfortably claim to rival any world manufacturer with execution of product. Their amazing run in the UK JD Power satisfaction/reliability survery attests to the product putting a smile on their owner's dial. Add their efficiency, performance and smart interiors is sure to be attractive to a subie owner - should be attractive to any car owner!

And the x-factor for me was that there aren't too many around at the moment. While I'm a couple years late for been a pioneer of the relaunched brand in Oz, it (will be) nice to drive something that you don't see every 5 min .. you know the feeling ... Corolla, Falcon, Corolla, 3, Commodore, Impreza/Liberty/Forester, bus, Camry, 6, repeat.

Jake, Good point about the practicality of both brands ... though I wish the Occy wagon boot (assume liftback is the same) was about 2cm wider!

When we go away for a weekend, I take my dog's crate which fits sideways comfortably in the back of the Forester boot but I need to do some plastic gymnastics to get it to fit sideways in the Occy.

having said that, once its in, there's still enough room for luggage between the crate and the back seats (not so in the Forester).

Yep it was the jd power reports that got me hooked , cause i loved the subaru reliability , i wanted a car that gave the same .

                          Still toying with a a chip upgrade , maybe ottinger stage 1 178kw .

Same colour as mine with roof i see .

nice! I was happy to channel the 'pseudo Czech mafia look' by ordering the black, will add to it with a nice dark tint when it arrives. I've never had a black car either so I've sworn to myself to keep it clean.

My 06 forester is the lux version (roof + leather) and in summer, gets ridiculously hot after a bit of time parked in the sun.

apart from not wanting to extend the budget to the roof (or xenons), decided that I was sick of the 'leather burn' when jumping in the car after the beach.

and have noticed the hairline isn't quite where it used to be, so I'll save my scalp the sunburn by not getting the roof always pros and cons!

Strange. I've had Land Rovers since 1998 but between about 1991 and 1998 I had a couple of Subarus.
I actually went into look at a Scout because I thought it would be a better Liberty (IMO Subaru lost the plot about 10 years ago) and they are diesel but I've ended up with a vRS Hatch TDI manual.
I did have a quick look at a Mazda 6 (diesel) which seems to be another vehicle that crops up here regularly as well but it really didn't impress. If I had known the that CX7 was being released in diesel so soon I may have waited to look at that but I suspect my ultimate decision would have been the same.
