Yes for audio, not sure for the fan.

The fan speed in my vRS is controlled by some maniac who lives in one of the many electronic black boxes. I don't know whether he/she takes road speed into consideration or not, as I usually turn the fan onto manual after the abovementioned maniac gets too excited and turns the fan onto full speed within a few seconds of starting the engine.

I have similar disagreements with the auto wiper controller in light rain (usually too sensitive, even with the adjustment switch in the "least sensitive" position).

Sounds like the mkv Golf. Almost deafening when flat out trying to cool the cabin quickly. But it does slow down when stopping at traffic lights for example.

That makes sense - the Octy II and the Golf 5 share a lot of components, especially the behind the scenes HVAC and electrical stuff.

Our last two BMWs were exactly the same. Obviously it's good German engineering at work here and we just don't understand.

I find the fan very annoying - hit the + button, hoping for 1 level of fan (from OFF) and it goes nuts, full bore. Is there any way of preventing this behaviour? I do not have the AUTO climate control on or anything, AC is off, I just want some fan blowing some air. :-/

Good luck. I think plain old fresh air coming straight in from outside is a thing of the past.

IIRC on my pre-FL VRS with climatronic I do the following:

A Press the "Eco" button (to stop the a/c compressor from operating),

B Dial the fan speed back to 1 (led block), pause, then back to zero (led block), then back up to the speed I want (usually 2-4 led blocks). That seems to set the fan speed into a proper manual control mode

C Dial in an appropriate temperature (if you have it too high it will heat the air coming in, too low and if it gets into auto mode again the fan speed goes beserk trying to cool you down)

I can't remember whether I have "Auto" on or off, sorry.

I'll give this a go, thanks, but do not remember seeing an "Eco" button :-/

Have a look immediately under the "Auto" button on the RHS of the HVAC controls.
