Am I to understand that if I pickup the right RNS510 from HK or the UK, and buy borrow or copy a map CD, and VAG-COM it, I can end up with an Octavia that looks and works the same as a factory nav, including parking display on the screen and any remote sound controls working, etc?

I don't know but I know you can buy an aftermarket unit AVC 9001-1 that looks the same from Australia. I havent tried it yet myself but from all accounts its great.2010 Vrs Tsi DSG Estate Anthracite Zenons Foglights Sunroof Front Parking Sensors Leather Tint Bluefin Love it!

If you guys go for aftermarket radio like AVC9001 be aware that some cars developed no start condition (flat battery) after replacing factory radio with the aftermarket one since the aftermarket unit doesn’t always shut down and will drain the battery after standing for a few days.
You can read about it in these threads.
If you take a risk and buy AVC9001 check the car battery for parasitic current drain after instalation, it is simple.
or if you have an ampere meter.
