  • Nearly 2yrs old.. still makes me smile everyday

Well I havent been on here in ages, and thought it best to touch base and tell you all that my late 08 delivered vRS RaceBlue wagon is going stronger than the day i bought it as the wonderful 2.0lt TSFI engine has finally run in. Im about to have its 3rd factory service at 45000klms and to this day i have had only one steering bush problem.

I have to say im going to buy the car at the end of my lease as i love it that much. I have not modified the car at all ( although the urge is there ) and a few of the fancy RS-P parts would be swish.. But think the practical side of the wagon would be lost. As im a keen fisherman, i regularly will have my Hobbie fishing kayak mounted to the roof racks and be heading to the mountains or the coast.

Im not sure what others have been like with Tyre wear, but my rears are original and only 50% worn.. and the fronts where only recently replaced at 39000klms. I dont drive slowly around corners and infact have a habit of really enjoying my mountain and coast drives keeping to the speed limit around most corners.. This car is amazingly ballanced for a FWD. I have rallied and raced on tracks many different cars and to this day i have not found such a neutrally ballanced FWD car. Theres a hint of lift off oversteer when needed, but not enough to kill you.

I hope Skoda have kept the model chassis dynamics in the new model, and from all reports that is the case.

Im still Hooked nearly 2 yrs down.

He's just testing to see if you are paying attention. From the vRS register thread:
"1. CanberravRS. Race Blue Wagon. deliv Dec/07. No Mods, yet. ACT"

I have to agree with his sentiment. Usually after I've had a car for 6 months or so it tends to become "just a car", but I am still very happy with my Octy after 16 months of trouble free motoring

Hey bud. Sometime earlyish 08 I followed a blue RS wagon into Fyshwick in a grey Golf GTI. Its a long shot, but was that you? Driver saw me coming and gave it a bootfull. Exchanged grins and waves before I turned off. Familiar? Seeing that car made me interested in the RS.

          one year on

Well its 12 months on and my rs tfsi just goes about its business with no fuss .

Had its first service , complained about the cost of the oil $106 , my bmw mechanic said , shut up ," oils aint oils always " use the best .

Interesting after the service start up was a bit hesitant and rough , buts now settled after 3 weeks , ecu recalibrate ?.

Economy is 8.4l/100k , mostly city driving , able to slot it into 5th gear on most roads .

Due to my retail business i needed a wagon , space is great , cannot complain about that aspect .

But i still get a great buzz taking it down a twisty B road and using that turbo grunt

          Happy motoring everybody

            x2

As my daily driver is the manky little Mk1 golf, every time I get in the Octavia, I remember why we chose this awsome bit of kit.

Just got back from the coast (a long weekend away with the family, fully loaded with the roof pod), and that diesel engine is just amazing - I am sure that the Oettinger re-flash has a bit to do with that. Overtaking semi-trailers and other slower cars/campervans was just too easy. But all of that torque is nothing without control, and the Octavia is very confidence inspiring - especially in the wet. I can't even imagine how solid the RS must be on the road, if the Elegance is this good

More importantly, the missus loves driving it too!!!

I am stunned that there aren't more of these cars on the road.

How was the economy on your car during the run in period? Just curious as I seem to be getting 10.5L per 100km. The car has only done 230km and I have not hit the highway once yet. I have also just been gently accelerating to 3000-4000 regularly to run it in, so it wont be as accurate as normal driving conditions.

Just curious if you noticed the fuel economy get a little better after run in similar to diesels?

                  HI Tunes

I was getting around the same figure when i first got the car , and iam not a gentle driver , but as i say i use 5th a fair bit around the city , adelaide certainly does not have heavy traffic like the east in peak hour .

Something i forgot to mention was i checked the oil at abot 6000k and added 1 litre , i have heard this can be normal .

My old vw gti mark 1V used to use about 1 litre every 3000k from start to end of ownership at 35,000km , again i have been told this is normal in some cases .

                  cheers

ok, I havnt quite got 400km's on the clock and only had it for 6 days, however what I can say is 'this car is brilliant!!'

First off, what a beautiful motor and gearbox. I have the petrol manual version and compared to my 2000 corolla, this car is 1000 times better. The clutch, accelerator, brake and shifting is such a joy to use. Everything is so silky smooth. I am still running the motor in, so I have not discovered the full abilities yet, however the torque and power on tap from minimal revs is awesome! Even shifting at a measly 4000rpm, this thing is really starting to move in 3rd gear! love it! Fuel economy is a bonus for a car with this power too.

The ride and handling is also top class. You wouldnt think you were rolling on 225/40/18's either. It provides good feedback and sharp handling while maintaining a comfortable ride in all conditions. I have heard people whinging about the tyres to, however I can't compain about the Dunlop's at all.

The interior and overall finish is just superb. Pure VW at its best. Most importantly, there is so much usable space which is what sold it to my wife.

In conclusion, this car has exceeded my expectations. It is practical and a bullet when I fell the urge the weight my right foot. Its the GTI I always wanted

My dad picked up his DSG Diesel wagon this week too and echo's my comments. Great car Skoda!

They all come standard with tinted windows which is what myn has. However I will be getting them tinted darker shortly for the QLD summer. The standard is quite light.
