Sorry to hear that you experienced this issue Transporter.
My wife's 2014 SKODA Octavia Elegance 132TSI with the 1.8 TSI (CJSA? EA888 engine) also experienced this issue a few weeks ago. It had done 120,000km and had been serviced a few weeks earlier. Going back through our records, I can't see any mention of a timing chain inspection. But then, inspecting the timing change also isn't mentioned in the Service book.
We're pretty upset about the entire situation, and it makes it even worse to come here and find that others have experienced the same issue, 5 years before we had, and yet there still doesn't appear to have been any communication from Skoda... at least none that reached us, despite us being the original owners and having been contacted by Skoda for other service campaigns etc.
