Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MY19 Octavia RS upgrade

Just noticed this morning that Skoda has upgraded the standard MY19 RS with the RS 180 TSI. So now the standard RS has the same engine and 7sp DSG as the RS 245. Stupid naming again, as the RS 180 is 180kw and 245 is hp, which is also 180kw.

Haven't looked into the actual specs, but I assume the standard RS won't have the LSD in from the 245, which the main selling point for the 245.

Another cool features is that the RS and RS245 will have the VWAG virtual cockpit available as a $700 option, which is good if you like new tech. I personally like the idea of having a screen for the gauges as it gives a lot of customisation, but I worry about the durability of screen with burn in and degradation after 5-6 years of constant use.

Good new all round for the RS!

I think the RS180 will get the LSD. The only differentiation with the RS245 will be a few optional things as standard, such as alcantara seats, 19" wheels and some other bits and pieces
    Sounds pointless to me

      I can help here

You are correct the 6sp Manual has been dropped from the lineup so has the detuned version of the 2.0 petrol. However they will not upgrade to the DQ500 that has the 7sp DSG, it will remain as the DQ250 6sp DSG.

The $700 Virtual Cockpit option will only be available in Octavias that are fitted with the Tech Pack.

So the RS180 will not have the LSD and will only come with the Tech pack as standard. You cannot option the luxury pack into this car. The only options for this vehicle is Sunroof, Virtual Cockpit, 19" Xtreme Alloys, Auto Tailgate for Wagon and Metallic paint.

The RS245 will has the LSD and come standard with a Tech pack also, however you are able to option all of the above + the Luxury pack at a cost of $2,800.
      I Sell Nissans Skodas.

The RS180 will only have the Electronic Differential Lock standard on all past mk3 RS's. That's more like a fancy ESP system rather than a true locking diff.. The RS245 will have the VAQ, which is a electronically controlled differential lock found in the Golf GTI Performance and R. Hard to say if it's worth the extra $5K for the VAQ as I've rarely pushed my RS162 around the corners to the point where the electronics kick in.

Do both RS180 and 245 come with the Adaptive Chassis Control, which is the same variable suspension found on the Golf GTI?

You'd be surprised how much the electronics kick in mate.

I've got a RS230 with the VAQ (set to increase traction) and I've turned the XDL (ESP ABS) to weak and the car lights up instantly, where before the XDL was on Strong, and little to no wheel spin. The Electronic systems in theses cars are unreal and very non intrusive (daily or on track), but turn them off and you need to be smooth as with the throttle.

VAQ is Def worth it, all the non VAQ cars that are tuned are now installing real LSDs to help with traction. Where as a RS230 similar setup (is3 is good as gold.

Yes the DCC is the same system as Golf mate

What I meant was I rarely take my RS to the limits and the VAQ won't be much benefit to me most of the time. I know for a fact that electronics probably has helped me from under-steering into a pole in the wet or the mountain roads a few times. The most sporty thing I do in my RS is drag someone at the lights (to speed limits of course...)...maybe that's worth paying $5K for I'm not sure .

Only cars that required high torque had the DQ500 (VW Transporter, TT-RS/RS3, Q3, Tiguan).

Besides the wretched DQ200, I think all othe DSQ boxes were wet clutched. The DQ380 is what most cars post 2015 will have if they have the 7sp DSQ with over 250Nm torque. For what it's worth, is rated to only 380Nm vs 400Nm on the DQ250 and only for FWD application.

the DQ380 has been around for many many years, however was exclusive to the Chinese market only.
its only recently, in the last 12 months, that the rest of the world is getting it too.
