2010 Fabia 1.4TDI - front wipers won't work!

It's not an Aus car - but my dad's 2010 Fabia Estate (wagon) in the UK has completely lost it's front wipers. The screen wash, rear wipers and other things on the stalk work - he's checked the fuses but not the relay.

Is there any common faults on the Polo/Fabia platform related to the motors dying prematurely or relays going etc. He's a mechanic himself, but goes of workshop manuals and can't find any for the new Fabia and also doesn't really have the free time to swap things over. We do actually have a second fabia he could try working parts off if you have any suggestions. He's a little stumped and I thought I'd post it here because everyone's normally super helpful and knows what they're talking about unlike the UK forums

I've used this resource online a few times now - it's a bit hit and miss - some bits are missing
but it gets the info I want more often than not
