Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • SKODA Fail - Oh nose

I forgot to mention it at the time of the last Happy Laps, but El Fabio did have a moment on the way to the last event.

I pulled away from the lights, smartly, and firmly, in manual mode, the Engine Fail light came on, the car went into limp home mode, and I sh** a brick.

I pulled over, shut down the car. Had a moment with the wife, then restarted the car.

    Perfectly. No problem since.

No idea what the problem was. Considering getting a fault code reader.

But has anyone else experienced this?

Is it just a side effect of having computer controlled cars, that might just have a software moment every now and then?

Thank the Gods cars aren't made by Apple, or worse, Microsoft...

Are you 100% it wasn't the Traction control??????

Not usual for a hard fault to "disappear"

Nup - Orange EFC (ECF?) light on the dash. I've seen the traction control light a few times.
      Only because it's been raining a lot, I wasn't doing anything boy-sterous :p

Needs a scan if the light came on, it'll be there to read.

          VICTORY! is mine!

Couldn't scrape up the cash for a code reader, so I wandered into the local VW/SKODA Service Centre this morning.

WHILE I WAITED - in the coffee lounge, drinking espresso, watching telly, and muffin munching (all free)....

They scanned my Fabia's log... found the problem was the DSG
          - the error related directly to what the update addresses
          - applied the update...
          VROOOM..... away I go.

Fast, Friendly, and Free. The three F's that count in car servicing.

The car pulls better, changes smoother, Sport mode is ummm Sportier, downshifts are more consistent, and rev/power ranges seem to be more in tune with the engine's capabilities. Gave it a run around Southport... so much for my economy run.
