Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Australia Fabia (V)RS DSG Software update.

Apparently, there is an update to the DSG software on the Fabia RS in Australia.

Don't believe it is performance related but may have something to do with a warning light code or similar. Not that I have ever seen one issue or one light come on in 6000ks.

Will be performed by dealer just after Christmas, so I expect I will be able to find out more then.

    Anyone else know anything?

Wish it had something to do with a smoother 'breakaway' from zero velocity, car is consisitantly tricky to either not bog down or launch too hard. Seems it loves a firm prod on the right pedal and has impressive acceleration after the initial take off, if driven that way. However it is tough to just smoothly roll away, without a slight hesitation.

Add painted white lines and water and good luck about pulling away fast, although credit must be given to the Traction Control as long as you remember to not turn it off if you are front row at the lights and it is raining.

    Cheers all

How do you know that it is a recall? Did you get the letter from Skoda saying that it is a recall?

Didn't get a letter and no I guess it it not a recall as such. Well not in the usual sense anyway.
Perhaps it is more like an internal service update and as it doesn't deal with safety it may well be optional.

When I booked in the car for the interim oil change my service manager told me about it.
I am sure it is just a software update but I really don't know the reasons why... as I said something to do with a warning light.

thanks "Transporter" for changing the title from Recall to Software update...

The word 'Recall' was used by my Service Manager over the phone, hence my use of it here.

Is that a copy of the Skoda Australia version for the DSG, or the HP version?

You have lots of other stuff by the looks of your signature, unless that is not all the same car!

Would love to know more about what you've done as a customer of APR/HP.

Think the Skoda Version of DSG Update is 'nothing' like the HP Version.

Can you tell me what you think of the main changes to your setup relating to just the DSG?

Just had the DSG ECU update done today - didn't notice any difference.

I'm also told a little squeak from the front suspension (sounds like a kids' toy being squeezed) is from bushings somewhere and that it should settle down as it wears in. I'm not too bothered about it, as I only notice the sound when I drive with the windows open (to hear exhaust noise...)

Lastly, I was enquiring about free oil top ups, which the dealer did after apparently doing the right thing and getting the car warmed up, presumably by idling (they "drove" it for an hour without covering any distance, according to the trip computer). Said it only needed 150ml, which pleased me as the car had been using approx 1L per 3500 km, and I last topped up about 900km ago.

To be pro-active, the dealership is going to do the breather mod anyway, which hopefully won't make the motor start burning more again...

I thought the Update was much better... although it seems like it has gone back to where it was since.

I have had free oil top ups since day one. The last engine oil uplift was about 130ml over 2000ks, so more than acceptable. My oil use was roughly 400ml per 1000ks until then.

                    What is the breather mod?

                    Stephen

if you have a good dealer... and you show concern with the oil use they will top it up for you if you ask nicely. Eventually, they will stop using oil but run it in well.

                        Oil breather mod... no idea?

Near as I can tell the first mention of the breather (or separator) mod is here. Be warned, it seems to be another desperation move to make these cars use less oil. For every one it works on, there is another it doesn't (and even some said to be worse afterwards...)
