The price is way too expensive. If Skoda is serious about increasing it's sales in this segment, it better offer huge discounts or special promotional pricing. Compare to some of it's major Japanese competitors:
1. Honda Jazz GLi Man $16990 drive away. Auto $18990 drive away!
2. Honda Jazz VTi Man $20220 drive away. Auto $22280 drive away! (The VTi is much better equipt than Fabia)
3. Mazda 2 Maxx Man $19250 drive away. Auto $20900 drive away. (I didn't bother to compare with baseline Neo as it only has 2 front airbags).
4. Mazda 3 Neo Man $21490 drive away. Auto $23490 drive away. (Even one class higher, the king of the small car, is cheaper than Fabia!!)
I know some people may argue that Fabia should not be compared to Honda Jazz or Mazda 2. But with the majority of buyers out there who needs a small car that will get them from A to B, why would they pay a premium for Skoda?

I disagree, I think the Fabia is well-priced, especially compared to its Euro competitors (Fiesta, Polo etc), particularly the Monte Carlo. The Mazda3 reference to cheapness is just because they're having a clearance of MY11 models to make way for MY12 and the SkyActiv tech that's soon to arrive on high-end 3s. Normally, Mazda3 Neos are just over $25k driveaway with the Maxx being $27k and so on and so forth. A Jazz GLi is a 1.3 litre dustbin (the interior is just as practical and well-finished) for $17k driveaway as far as I see it! What about rivals like the Polo and Fiesta?

Even compare with Polo, the 77TSI Comfortline 5 door, only ~$500 more ($23549, drive away in QLD), but you get alloy wheels and RNS310 (which is Swing in Skoda term I believe, optional in Fabia), which is well worth the extra $500, and no doubt better resale. Not to mention DSG is already available with the Polo. Is there some equipment that is standard in Fabia which is not in Polo that makes it good value for money? I must be missing something. All I can see is bluetooth...
I'm not try to look down on Skoda's. I love Skoda and I wish it do well! But with such pricing? It's a bit optimistic....The price may drop and equipment upgraded in 2013, just like the Superb when first introduced.

In the small car market $1000 is alot of money. And you may find that Skoda charges less for its options than VW will do for the Polo.

Don't look at RRPs, look at drive away price as this is what counts. From Skoda website, Fabia on road will be $23042, from VW website, Polo 5 door comfortline on road is $23549. This is based on my postcode in Brisbane metro. So difference is $507, not $1000. For this extra $507, you get 4 alloy wheel (albeit only 15') and RCD310 radio, which Fabia don't get. Just the 4 alloy wheel should cost you $1000 at least. So Polo has better overall value!
How come skoda has a higher ORC is beyond me, maybe higher dealers delivery charge?
I can only shake my head in disbelief at how stupid and borderline inept Skoda management are. The only thing that matters in the small car market is price. There is nothing more that draws the buyers into the brand.

It's jap equivalent is just suicide. Wouldn't the smart money be on using the Fabia as a sacrafiicial cow, burn a bit if cash to draw people into the brand?? Surely they understand their place in Oz, they are not a VW alternative here they are just another brand fighting for space, they just seem to have no real concept of their standing in this country.
Mark my word the Fabia will not sell at this price and the Fabia will not be the volume seller they need!!!
They very much struggled to get the Fabia here as they knew it would be pricey, having said that, I've seen the RS and the Monte Carlo in the flesh and there isn't much like the Monte Carlo about, it's a very different car to a Mazda 2 let alone a 3.
I'd say the closest thing to the Monte Carlo would be a Mini and they are a hell of a lot more expensive...
You are comparing RRP pricing with the competitors' "on sale now" pricing.
It's priced the same as the Fiesta LX.
Only the Mazda 3 is on sale pricing. Jazz and Mazda2 have trimmed their RRP.
Even if they are all on sale pricing, my point still stands. Skoda has to do some real deals to win the sales race.
Also, at present, Polo still seem a better value than Fabia. Even if NSW pricing is about $722 difference, you still score alloy wheels and better audio system on the Polo, $722 is still worth it. But personally, I like Fabia's styling more than Polo. That's because I'm a skoda fan.
You will be surprised that Skoda's are not as negotiable as most people think. It's mainly because they don't have cars in stock! My experience has been that VW will offer more discounts than Skoda.
Honda's generally not much discounts. But I think that's about to change as Honda has just slipped out of top 10. So pressure is on Honda.
Don't know about Mazda, never bought one and probably never will. But I know when Mazda 3 first came out and when the waiting list was 3 months or more, there wasn't any room for discounts.
But the worst thing Skoda can do, is set the RRP unrealistically too high and offer massive discounts at the end. It will really hurt resale! That's how they killed the roomster!
