  • Toledo starts, but won't rev!

    Hi Guys,
Friend has a 2E engined Toledo that will start but won't rev.
Any bright ideas of where to start (no pun intended!).

    Thanks,
    Chris

Plenty of petrol in the tank? Decent plugs, rotor arm and cap. These would be where I looked first as they are cheap.

After that I would be investigating the throttle position sensor on the throttle body. This is a simple variable resistor, over time the wiper and tracks get all dirty.

if you are any good with a multimeter you could look at it and work out if they are OK or not.

Also in the TPS is a closed throttle switch, if this is stuck in the closed position, the engine won't rev as it is in conflict with the output of the position part of the sensor.

Does it start for 4 seconds then die?

Coded chip in the key? Try turning the key over and try again, or try another key if you have one.

            Thanks Matt,
Toledo built 12/94 so no coded key.
It WAS running sort-of-OK before but will not run over 100rpm no matter what.
I have removed TB to check out throttle closed switch which seems OK.
Is there supposed to be a full-throttle switch contained within this?
There are three terminals in the switch.

            Thanks guys.

            Chris.
