I've got a complete working single point system here. I was going to put it on my MK 1 but the weber that's on there just works so damn well that I can't justify the stress of swapping it over. I've also got brand new coil for it I got from Matt.

I even know the codes it was throwing because I bought one of those handheld OBD scanners to check it out before I pulled it out of the car.

Tim, if you get a single point unit from the wreckers, check that the connector on the drivers side of the unit has 6 pins, not 4. The later kind is more complex and the early kind wont work with your car.

The one Pete Jones has is the right kind for your car and was from a running car.

Not sure if it's the same wreckers Tim meant, but Center Rd. wreckers at 1602 Centre Rd. Springvale have four Seats at the moment:
-a purple Cordoba 3/95 ABS engine hit from front and rear, pretty well picked over
-a white Ibiza 1/95 ABD engine rear hit almost complete (nice front)
-a green Ibiza 1/95 ABD engine front left hit
-a white Ibiza 12/95 ABD engine hit front and rear.

yes thats the place. There was also a toledo with light front end damage that we half stripped too.
Bugger about the cordoba being stripped. I think there used to be another one as well? I havent been for a while but my mate goes regularly cos there are usually a few older kjet audis that he has taken parts from too.
They had a pretty clean 3 door mk1 golf there at once stage but it disappeared. Im sure someone woulda snapped that up for next to nothing

Seems it was the distributor playing funny buggers. Perhaps the hall sender or something? Is there much else that can go wrong in those things?

As usual it was the last thing i tried. So at the minute the car is running sweet with the gear I picked up from Peter Jones. I owe you big time buddy for lending the stuff to me.

Car starts first crank and the flat spot just off idle has gone completely! Will test her again tomorrow morning and see if she starts just as easy when its freezing.

the game isnt over by a long shot yet though. Car needs a BIG cleanout. There is lots of crap that has falled from the tree at my parents place in all the boot channels and rain tray. Need to get it out of there cos it holds a lot of moisture. New tyres are needed as well. She is also really wobbly on the road. Perhaps im fussy but ill need to dig up some suspension for it as well I think.

one last major thing that needs fixing is the airbag. its throwing the following code. Im assuming it will be the usual spring that hides behind the steering wheel yeah?

There's an air filter in that rain tray for the cabin air. Pull that plastic cover right out and give the whole area a good clean out. You'll probably want to put another air filter in there.

And yeah im familiar with the rain tray area. as you said the other night its pretty much a mk3 and I know my vr6 inside out.

still tinkering away with this car. Its still not 100% but at least i can get it started now. Only problem is the timing seems to be a bit screwy.

Was playing around today with it today. Now through the inspection hole in the top of the gearbox there is a 0 marked on the flywheel. Im assuing that is TDC yes? then a little way across from that there is a what looks like a tab with a flat smooth surface on it. Is that the mark that signifies 6 degrees? When the timing is set to 0 is runs smooth but a tad sluggish when its set to what looks like the 6 degree mark it runs nicely but she pings her little titties off when any major throttle application.

All the timing marks seem to match up correctly when i set the crank, cam and flywheel marks they all seem to point to TDC at the same time. Is it possible for these marks to line up but something still be out of whack?

The mechanic that innitially replaced the cam belt managed to give it back to us 2 teeth out of whack which another mechanic was able to identify and rectify with no great dramas. Also another mechanic has had the gearbox out recently to replace the clutch and machine the flywheel.

nah she had a full tank of BP Ultimate the day after i picked her up. Although the tank is getting low again. Ill fill her up again tomorrow just to be sure.
