Anyways, are CD players easy to install and re-attaching the wiring for central locking?

C/L is vacuum operated, not electrical.
CD Player should be easy.

Can I buy any type or a certain type that will fit the slot?

Would it be possible to fix the central locking myself?

Depends what is wrong with the C/L. Do any of the buttons work? Have you tried drivers and passengers doors?

Get a generic CD player and slice it in.

Does the pump in the boot run for ages?

When the pump is running, listen at the edge of the door and see if you can hear air escaping. Under the bubber boot by the door hinges is an airline, make sure it is plugged in and has no vacuum leaks.

If you get it right the C/L will work
