Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 1995 SEAT Ibiza help?

    Hey,
My name is Adam and I own a '95' SEAT Ibiza. It's a 1.4l engine and has a manual transmission.

The help I need is, when selecting gears its ok, but once the car heats up a little it's hard to select first gear if you get what I mean. I had a little look around and there is a link that comes from the shifter to the trans which is meant to have a bush of some sort in there. After finding out at work that the owner was driving and something had happened and this bush had broken or something and he had replaced it with a rubber bouncy ball on the side of the road.

As I work at a place that works on VW, etc I though I might call up about this part. I've tried to explain best I can but they seem to think I am talking about a plastic bush that is on the shifter itself.

Here is the best explanation I got. Now on the shifter inside the car it has a long rod that goes from that I believe to the trans. Well about 30mm from the trans or what ever there is like a link of some sort. The previous owner has put a rubber toy ball in there. But as the engine heats up it softens the ball and is very hard to get 1st. Can anyone help by giving me a name of this bush? part number maybe? or even a site of where I could buy the part? I would have taken a photo but its sort of hard at the minute as its like 8:45 pm and its dark outside.

If this helps its a 1.4l engine, the engine code is ABD and the trans code I believe is GVM. I hope I have explained this well enough.

    Thanks, Adam.

try this number mate - 191711233. Very common, the bush goes brittle and finally breaks away, gets cooked by the exhaust over the years
