  • 1999 Ibiza Gti Keys, Remotes & Rear Mirrors?

I almost lost my only key for my 1999 Ibiza this week. Its been a wake up call to have another one made.
The one I've got now was probably once the spare.
What type of keys did these cars originally come with?
Was there a remote key? And what type of remote? I ask because my rear mirror doesn't have the infa red sensors on it like my Cordoba does.

I just had a new key cut for my Cupra. Got it done at the lock smith oposite ringwood station. Cost about $100.
He clones the key and then cuts it.

I have 2 identical original seat keys that came with my car but neither have remote. I know ibizas overseas came with keyless entry but did any of the aussie delivered cupras get keyless entry?

I was able to get a spare key with sensor cut at Mr Minit at Chadstone a couple of years ago. Main trouble was finding the right key. He had boxes of them, once I found the right key it was done in a few minutes. Cost around $70 bucks as I found the key in his cupboard

              Mind blown.
Is it the aim towards rear mirror type?

No idea, I just point it at the car & it locks & unlocks. It came with the car.

When I picked it up from the dealer I was given 2 normal Seat keys & was told to check under the dash when I got home. So I jumped in started the car & reached under the dash to find the remote section taped under the steering column. It's designed to slide into a key assembly but I didn't bother chasing one up. I just have it on my key ring withthe standard key & I've never had a problem with it.

The remote as I use it

& on the key ring with the standard key.

Is that a photo of your remote or one found online?

                    Infrared remote mirror

                    Non remote mirror

Who's got what in their cupra?

the picture is from online but mine is the same as you can just see laying behind my GTI badge in the other photo. And my mirror is the non remote mirror looking at your photos.

                        Interesting!
It's sounding like your remote is radio frequency and not infrared after all.
I can't see which one your remote is from your photo

infrared with the LED looking thing on the end

                        radio frequency without that bit

Mine looks like your top photo. I was told by the dealer that it was a radio frequency remote that shared it's freq with something that had already been allocated tosomething else here in Australia which is why Seat had not issued them with the Cupra's.

                            Now I'm confused.
Does it lock/unlock with the remote held backwards or does the key blade section need to be facing towards the car?

Key blade end towards the car is the way I use it, that said I think i've just always done that. I'll have a play in the morning.
