Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2 x Ibiza @ Wakefiled

We decided on a last minute trip to Wakefield Park Wednesday evening for a trackday yesterday.

It was an absolute blast. I think when you go with two, almost identical, cars with drivers on similar skill levels (armatures!!) the day is awesome.

We ignored all the fast cars on the track and literally ran our own race! We were the slowest on the track yesterday, buy hey, Wakefield is an awesome track even with a little power. I did manage a 1:22:18 which is quite respectable for a stock 8v.

We didn't take a lot of photos, but we have a lot of video!
    Maccas pit stop:

Some footage: Its just from one camera for now. We had a few more setup that will be uploaded later.

Hey mate, great stuff. I managed a 1.22.9 at the nationals super-sprint in my brothers also stock Ibiza GTI 8V.... I couldn't get any more out of it though. Mind you, stock suspension (165,000km old!) is a little floaty!

Helluva great fun track in an ibiza anyway, thats for sure!

Thanks mate. I have the Eibach springs in my car which helped a little. But my shocks are gone! So I was sticking to the bend but bouncing at the same time! You can see the front of the car bouncing in the vid.

My mates Ibiza had all stock suspension and over 270,000kms on the clock! Lots of fun for sure. With the right suspension setup and nerves of steel you could possibly pull off under 1:20:00

Yes, my feeling was, driving my bothers car, that if it had some decent shocks and was a little lower/stiffer it would be much quicker around wakefield - perhaps 2 seconds - but only with the right brake pads I think. I was having brake fade problems, so I was basically braking at what I would say was around 70% capacity at the end of the back and main straights so that I could brake harder for all the twistys - but I was still, even then, overheating them.

How did you go with your brakes? Also, top speed on the straight? I managed perhaps 135km/h. hard to tell really when you are concentrating! Massive fun though! Your car looks the business!

Did that 8v come from Melbourne? If so looks good with a clean up and did it need much work?

Autoslick (sorry I dont know your name) looks so good with the 16v bumpers. Wish we could have got a photo at the Nats.

I did a 1:25 in my Cupra and would have loved to give it a really good punt but I had in the back on my mind its 1000km's back to Melbourne. Dont worry though ill be back again to get sub 1:20 soon.

Seems Ibiza's are the car to have at Wakefield.

Brakes were ok. I put new pads in a few months ago. Top speed as per my data logging was 138. Thanks for the kind words. Cars always looks heaps better in photos.

My name is Azgar Yep my mates car was the one from Melb. He just cleaned in up, new exhaust, and a good service. Goes really good. The interior is flawless. Yeah my car was a mess on the weekend of the Nats. It was all sanded back with no bumpers, etc.. Next year for sure. I'm not planning to sell it anytime soon. It's heaps of fun. I have some big plans for the interior already in the pipeline.

Your car came up nice. I saw you had to do a bit to get it good. We should arrange another Ibiza track day.

                            That looks like fun!
And now I need to ask where is the nearest track to Melbourne where this is allowed?
