Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi All
Ok well i have a couple of questions about this vinyl wrap stuff.....the top clear coat of my 1995 SEAT Cordoba 1.8 GLX (white) is starting to peel on the roof in three different places the largest being in the middle close to the windshield anyway i also have some dents(hail damage) mainly on the bonnet so was considering getting a respray as i want to keep my car for a while.....but have been trying to research a full vinyl wrap as a cheaper option....i went to one place and he quoted for dent removal and full respray(not sure if it included engine bay etc) $6000 which i thought was a bit pricey....i have looked up a price for the vinyl wrap(matte black) and was said it would be $3000-$4000 and has a 7 year warranty and of course is removable....i'm not sure if non matte colours would be cheaper but i am just worried about the hardiness of the vinyl (such as scratching, dents, peeling) vs a respray....has any of you had your car covered or know someone that has if so any good places (near western suburbs of melbourne) and what price for a good job...im hopeful i can get the dents out before getting a wrap or respray as my friend got quoted $300 for her supra bonnet and its alot worse than mine....just to change the subject i am looking into replacing my engine to see if i could get an engine with a bit more power....will a 2.0ltr vw golf fit straight in(any adjustments needed)...or should i get a 1.8ltr vw golf gti engine....what engine will fit straight in with no adjustments needed...my engine is a vw 1.8ltr 66kw adz auto....Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

hi, i quickly looked into this topic with my other car, and came to a conclusion, No. In terms of maintenance the wrap, in my case i wanted matt black, would be hard to maintain, think of every bird stain on the finish. It would take you ages to clean up as well as any other crap we pick up while driving.

now 3-4k to wrap the car in sounds reasonable, but this is something that with some practise and a bunch of youtube vids you could do your self.

I'm in the same situation and curious as to what you ended up doing and if you could share your experience?
Looking for a new project! PM if you have a Golf Mk2 in need of some TLC.

On 12 month suspension for enjoying my Ibiza GTI too much... 2 months left!

I came across this product, it seems like a very cheap alternative to get that matt look and a good quality too.

It's about $300 - $400 for 3.78L of the stuff! Looks quite easy to apply as well, I'm very tempted... Also, if you don't like it you can just peal it off... Better to waste $400 if you don't like it than waste $1000's!
