Hello ladies and gentlemen
The 20V 1.8T is in the Ibiza, and now we are at the point of getting a dump pipe made. By the looks of it, there shouldn't be any problems getting a 3 inch dump pipe to make its way down through the tunnel, and to continue it with a 3 inch cat back ex. I dont want it to be too loud so Im not going to get a cannon type rice burner muffler, but rather an oval type one.. I dont know exactly yet... So.. exhaust is no problems whatsoever!.....
The computer and loom also are not going to be a problem as they will be taken care of by an Autronic Unit which I have been assured is the best aftermarket unit, of course different people have different idea's on these things, but I trust Peter at Canberra VW Centre, so instead of going the cheaper route with a microtech or something a little less xxxx'e im happy to go with what he likes to tune... Plus, I think that the Autronic can be put into closed loop as well... making engineers happy.
BUT HERES THE DILEMMA... What should I do about the Intercooler?? I only want to get this thing engineered once, so im not going to get drips and drabs done and pay thru the nose (im very shortly moving to QLD, and from what I gather, each time you get something done, it has to get put on your engineering plate.. which costs 695 each time.. Fck that) I wanna get everything done now, drive up to QLD on a 1 week temp rego form, and get it engineered and it registered in QLD. SOOO.... The room between the front bar and the radiator is quite minimal. I am absolutely positive, that if you wanted to, you could chop through certain points and get a front mount to fit. My problem with that is that I DO NOT like the idea of chopping away at the bumper - dont ask me why I just hate it. If I had an aftermarket front bar with room for an I/C it would be sweet, but I dont. So then there is the option of keeping the guard mount, which as I discussed isnt really an option because I want to get any work done to it now, and not in drips and drabs and engineering eqach time.. SO.. it leaves me with one other option which I have NEVER gone with with a turbocharged cars (and I have had quite a few) A WATER TO AIR I/C... I have found a few Australian sites, but they are all SO expensive it is absurd... PWR make kits which arent even complete for over 1K. I was put onto the following site:
Air to Water Intercooler
and this is the actual kit I want to purchase:
Water to Air Intercooler
These guys are in the U.S. of A. and their kits look the goods. Postage is the only downfall, costing $167.00 just for an intercooler kit... I'm thinking that they are doing the old trick of lowering the 'Price' of the kit and heightening the postage price. It's bad enough when its a chinese company doing it... but out friends in the USA.. come on.. help a brother out.
So my question is... Is it worth buying the water to air intercooler? does anyone have this modification? If so please point me toward the pictures, and does anyone have a cheaper Australian competitor ?
