Short self tapping screw? Where did you place it? I see the covers slide in to the skirt. Did you have to take it off to access?
I just placed the cover in it's place then put a short screw in from underneath at the inboard end through the gap between the cover & the skirt. When the head of the screw contacts both surfaces it will hold the cover.

Go and have a look in the Dog & Lemon Guide at your local newsagent. In short, avoid like the plague.
ECUs give constant problems
Radiators die between 80-180k
Oil leaks common
Camshaft seals leak
Timing belts fail early (interference engine too)
If used below 8 degrees C the crankcase breather pipe freezes shut and leads to an oil supply problem that will wreck the entire engine
Manual gearboxes are usually dead before 150k
Car uses a special flywheel (expensive) that wears out with the clutch and often needs replacing
Clutch cable self adjusters fail on manual versions, causing accelerated clutch wear
Suspension prone to frequent wheel alignment problems
Discs and brake pads wear out very quickly
Paint is soft and fades easily
Side windows fall out of their guides and into the doors
Aircon dies young and is expensive to fix
3 stars out of 4 crash rating (not bad).
I really think that you should go and buy a Toyota.
