  • cordoba drive line

hey all, im hoping someone can help me im new to this foruum and new to the seat cordoba i own.
what my issue is, is that i seem to have ended up with a gear box full of nuetrals, so i went about taking the gear box out.
im guessing its either the clutch drive shaft(s) or gearbox, so.. i got as far as removing the control arms and thing and ive been trying to get the drifshafts out and stuff me if i can get them out.
is there a specific way to get th buggers out or am i doing something wrong?
if someone could give me some insight it would be fabulous, i do love this little car and i really dont want to give up on it.

    thanks in advance guys

Hi Ayrton, welcome to the forum.

I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable guys will jump in with some advise shortly (I haven't pulled my box out so can't help). If not try sending Matt from camden gti a PM (golfloon), he should be able to steer you in the right direction. If you haven’t tried a search of this thread do so & have a look at cupranet if you haven't already & do a search of the cordy or ibiza threads (link to the cordy thread below)

    cheers

Please tell me you checked the gear shifter linkages and plastic bushes. There is a bush kit for this problem

        ayrton -

It is a good idea to check the linkages first - there are a couple of ball ended rods that snap on and off, and its possible that one has come astray. If you have already checked the linkages, see below for gearbox removal:

to remove the gearbox (this is from memory so i might leave some minor thing out)

        > support the vehicle on axle stands under the subframe crossmember towards the rear of the engine compartment
        > disconnect and remove the battery from the car, and any wiring from the gearbox and starter. disconnect the clutch cable.
        > Undo the inner CV joints using 12 point socket tool (8mm)
        > remove any small bolts retaining the sheetmetal protective plates from the bellhousing
        > disconnect the weighted shift rod (remove the R pins) and the ball ended linkage rods
        > turn the steering fully left lock and tie the passenger side driveshaft up close to the chassis rail. (note, it is not necessary to remove any of the suspension (or even the roadwheels) to remove the gearbox
slacken (slightly) the 3 large bolts retaining the gearbox to the engine
        > use a trolley jack to support the weight of the engine, and loosen and remove the starter motor retaining bolts. remove the starter.
        > remove the passenger side gearbox mount bolt, then remove the mounting bracket from the gearbox by undoing the 3 long m8 bolts through the diff casing
        > support the weight of the gearbox (easiest using an engine crane or similar, with a chain attached to the lug in the gearbox casing, next to the shift linkage housing on top of the gearbox. The gearbox will balance from this point
        > remove the remaining large bolts holding the gearbox to the engine
        > with the weight of the gearbox supported, gently lower the engine/gearbox slightly so that the end of the gearbox has some clearance from the chassis rail.
        > pull upwards on the clutch lever. this will easily separate the gearbox from the engine.
        > maneuver the gearbox out of the engine bay onto the floor
        > it may be necessary to remove the front crossmember. to do this, disconnect the power steering hose, then undo the 4 bolts into the chassis rail.

hope that helps. annoying that you've already removed the control arms but oh well.

Have you checked the relay shaft and ball? 10 mins to change and common as hell.
