Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • How heavy should the cutch be in a 1999 MK2 ibiza Gti?

    Hey guys,

I just bought one of these cars and Im in the process of fixing it up for a RWC. I find the clutch very heavy to engage. Its heavy from the get go and gets worse a couple of inches or so to final travel. Is it a clutch problem? Or could it just need a new clutch cable?

I replaced a cable on mine a few years back to fix a heavy peddle.

Cable is massively long and does some sharp bends. They are hard to get and expensive, so people leave em untill they destroy the pedal box.

I imported a few from the UK, I can check if I still have any left.

Thanks golf loon , it actually looks like it has been replaced before as its alot cleaner and newer looking than the rest of the hoses and engine components. I take it these cars have a some what heavy clutch anyway?

Karmen is talking about an 020 gearbox. The cupra has an 02A gearbox. Totally different. You can check the bearing on an 020 whilst gearbox is fitted. Not so with an 02A, needs the box to come out.
