Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Head Gasket Problem???

    G'day,

    Cordoba GLX 95

I checked the oil today and when opening the oil cap, i spotted some of the dreaded oil/water mix on the cap.......car seems to go ok, so far.....could this be a head gasket problem??

If it is does anyone know approx cost to get fixed.......

Any answer would be much appreciated

    Cheers

You say some, is it thick?? if you are having lots of stop starts and short journeys mate it you will get a bit of condensation and itll show on the cap slightly. Are you losing coolant? is your oil level increasing? your car is running good so sounds ok at this stage. Is you engine coolant hoses pressurising? if you are unsure have the system TK tested. TK test checks for combustion gases in your coolant system and the next stage is a cylinder leakage test. i think by the sound you are doing short trips and frequent stop starts???

If you want to be 100% sure. It is also worthwhile to mention that Used Oil Analysis from the engine oil sample would give good assurance that your cooling system is healthy. It's cheaper than dismantle the engine to just take a look.

True that transporter, you can have it analysed for around $70. Being signed up with Penrite has worked wonders in that department.
