Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

        i'm with pete...

36KWs of unbridled 1.5 non-turbo diesel power, pushing 1200kgs of Seat from standstill to... not standstill...

there's also a whole bunch of legislation ( in nsw at least ) preventing the installation of an older motor with less emission control into a newer chassis.

        1.9 td is the way.

Bolt battern on Mk1 Diesel is same as 1.8 cordy or 2L Golf. So you can use that gearbox.
1.4 is a different bolt pattern and gearbox and so wont work.

legally speaking, its true in NSW its hard/impossible to engieer an older engine in a newer vehicle, however i reckon the combination of SEAT+Diesel+WTF would get you through a blueslip.

The problem really lies in the fact that it would be really really slow. But, if you get a 1.9D (from loon for instance) it would be fine, and legal too.
