I am about to get the drivers side window chocked as a tempory mearsure.
The glass slipped down when going down. Also the passenger front is partially sliding. Is this the window regulator and is it a common problem.
The vw mechanic says that the new unit has to come with a motor and they are helishly expensive.
anyone have any clues

You may be able to do the cable tie fix on this one.Originally posted by crazyazz View PostI havent taken the door trim off to look , but my driverside window doesnt move. I can here the motor working and it sounds like the other working window. What does this issue sound like? 99 Mk2 ibiza Gti
Basically, take off the door trim and remove the plastic weatherproof cover.
THen use the switch to wind the window down half way.
You will either see lots of tangled wire, or the mechanism will move but not the window.
If it is the latter, remove the 5 10 mm bolts and undoo the electrical 2 pin connector.
Also detach the window from the plastic slider another 2 10 mm bolts.
Take the regulator and motor out of the door.
Each of the two guides have a cable with a metal knob moving up and down them.
Get the 2 plastic sliders which have an L shaped cross section and can be clipped onto the rails.
You will see the locating position on the back of the plastic that the knob fits into.
Clip the plastic slider over the metal wire and knob.
When it is located, sneak a skinny cable tie behind the wire and throught the plastic slider to hold it in place instead of the broken clips.
Do both sides.
I usually plug em in before install and check they move.
If its all good, put back in and locate window in plastic clip. I usually do the bolts up looely and jiggle the window as it goes up until it finds a happy spot, then tighten. Also grease the rubbers for non stick and smoother operation.
Then reassemble door and enjoy the fresh ait.
If this doesn`t work, call Camden GTI 02 46273072 for a replacement unit.
Good Lucksigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

Thanks Golf Loon, that is one of the most informative posts I have ever read. Will give it a go on the weekend.
Have the door skin off now. Its looks like a mess in there, someone has tried pretty hard to destroy the RH front bracket, motor area. Will take some photos, as to better illustrate what I will need to fix it.Last edited by crazyazz; 12-11-2010, 02:08 PM.1999 MKII Seat Ibiza Cupra Sport

Hi guys, here is a picture of the window regulator. It seems the rearward section of the window is attached and will go up and down via the switch. Now the front forward section (pictured) appears to have pieces missing that would attach the window to what I guess is the runner. This white plastic runner (circled red) goes up and down when the switch is activated. I also found the black plastic piece sitting in the bottom of the door. Its all new to me , never have looked at window regulator before

I have no idea what that black thing is mate. Maybe something used to hold the window??
The reg you have is rooted. The loop of wire in view in the second pic means something is badly smashed. Wire will be all tangled round the spool and the reg is a chuck out.
