Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Broken Door Lock - 96 Ibiza GTi

Something gave the other day when I unlocked the driver's side door - the key now turns through 180 deg. each way with very little resistance, and won't unlock the car... The aftermarket remote quit a while ago too, so I'm down to locking and unlocking from the passenger side.

    Any likely causes?
How do I get the door panel off?
    Thanks!
    Rick

The lock eccentric has broken mate.

I can sell you a new one for $20.

You dont need to take off the doortrim, simply undoo the allen bolt in the end of the door that holds the handle in. Tap the handle briskly forward and pull it out of the door.

You can swop the left and right handles to give you drivers side control as a temp fix.

Mk3 rods are longer and you might have to machine a bit off.
