Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My SEAT Ibiza GTI

    Yo,
I just got this SEAT Ibiza GTI 1995 2.0 Ltr.
I can't find much info about this car.

I own a mk3 Golf VR6 and Mk2 GTI. How would SEAT compare with these 2. Ehm, I'm still in NZ while my SEAT is in Sydney...I know, crazy guy, buying the car without even look at the car. Compulsive eBay buying...

So, please enlighten me about this car. I just trust VAG product too much...

      geee you're trusting!

      isn't the 2L ibiza a 16v?

everywhere except the US, the Mk3 was seen as a different car to a 2L. thus the 16v only got put into the GTI's. does your mk2 have a 16v or 8v??

ibiza would prob be more fun around corners, similar straight line accel as the VR6

        NZ import rules

G'day. This must be the first time we've heard of an Aussie car going to NZ. It's usually the other way around.

What are you import rules? Age, ownership, Design rules compliance etc? We'd all be interested to know because the Australian govt. makes it almost impossible for us to do what you're doing.

          AUS 95 Ibiza GTi have a 2L SOHC 8v 2E engine.

Same as sound in the Mk3 Golfs. good engines, and good car all round.

            Haha

            You guys misunderstood me.
I'm moving to Sydney this April and bid the car just for fun and I won

So, no I'm not importing it to NZ.
As fun as VR6? Good then. Cause the week I arrived, I will be driving the Gold Coast to have a break first before flat and job hunting.

Its a 2L 8v car. Heaps of fun to drive. Light as a Golf GTI Mk2, but with a bit more go and grown up bits like working ac and electric windows.

Is it the black one that was on ebay?

                yep.
There is funny twist to the story. The guy wants to pull the deal. He even wants to pay me $200 to cancel the transaction.
He might not guess that the car would only fetch so much, and regreted it.

I asked my in-law to go have a look at the car.
Do you know anything about this car? Should I just take the deal?

                  I got it.

My brother in law picked it up last night.
The good news: It is still a very good car.
Bad news: The speedo stop working.

Any of you gentlemen know what caused this? Do I need to pull out the whole speedo console or could it just wiring/cable? Thanks

While a better day to day proposition the euro 8v would hav the measure of it. I'd defintaley consider one at this price in oz!

The speedos in these cars suffer from electrical issues. Change the whole instrument cluster or take it apart and resolder, usually fruitlessly.

                      Usually they will work intermittantly.

just the speedo dosn't work? tacho, water temp and petrol still work, if so, read on...

there is a wire that connects to the back of the speedo... tell your brotherinlaw to locate this wire and make it easily accessable.

While driving the car, tell him to pull on the wire. if the speedo jumps, then dies again, tell him to pull it a little harder. It should then work perfectly fine. To fix the problem on a budget, get a cable/zip tie and pull on the wire, and zip tie it to the steering collum.

                        2000RPM in 4th gear is around 60Km/h.

I hope the person that bought my car isnt on this forum.... as i didn't have a speedo (thus no odo) for about a year... fixed it the day before i sold it... LOL
