  • G'day all!!

Firstly, thanks to Ben - "phaeton", for letting me know, where Aussie SEAT owner's hide!!

My name is James, from South OZ and I drive a Silver 1998 1.6L SEAT Cordoba SXE, 5spd manual.

Bought it back in 2000 for $14,000 with only 12,000km on the clock and 7 years on, it's now got 111,000km on the clock. Not bad for a car that will turn 10 years old next year!! I've taken it to Sydney, Melbourne and Tassie on a few occasions on holiday trips without a hitch, so it's been around a bit

Was looking at a second hand VW Vento at the time, but the Vento was a bit out of my reach. Saw the Cordy and I just had to take it home with me!!

The salesman told me it had been sitting in the yard for a while and while most people liked it, they just didn't know what it was, which put them off buying it.

I knew exactly what it was, a VW underneath the badge and seeing I couldn't afford a VW badged car, I went for the closest thing.

Would have to be one the best handling small car I've ever driven and I haven't had a problem with it.

It runs a bit rough at the moment, it really only ever get's driven 3 times a week or on very short trips, but apart from that, it's been a ripper of a little car!!

As soon as I get my butt into gear, I'll post some pic's up for you guys. Sorry I don't have any at the moment.

I haven't done anything to it, it's stock standard, but I think it's time to start doing some modifications to it. A bit more power would be great!!

Anyway, you guys have a great little community here!! At least now I know where to ask questions and get info from!! Cheer's!!

    James

    Welcome James.
That is a nice cordy sexy you have.
The 1.6 is an EFI multipoint engine same as Polo and very differnt from most Cordys sold here which were 1.8 with singlepoint injection.
Yours would be rarer, I have only seen 2 others. Its a 98-99 thing.
Enjoy the SEAT its great I love em.

Welcome, James. Nice to have another SEAT owner aboard. Great choice of car...I love 'em.

Please take her for long runs! Short runs kill motors. It accelerates engine wear, sludges up the oil and is heavy on fuel. I'd rather buy a country car with 300,000km on the clock that a city car of the same age with 50,000km on the clock. Sorry, I'm not having a go at you because we are all living our own lifestyles, but try to get the oil hot!

          Thanks for the welcome guys!!

brackie - thanks for the advice mate!! I'll make a more of a conscious effort to give the Cordy a good run during the week. If I'm not riding my mountain bike to training to keep up fitness levels with sport, I'm in the work van.

Golf Loon - I kind of figured my Cordy was just that little bit special and your right, it's a 98 model, but was first registard in 99. I've only ever seen one SE and 3 other SXE's here in SA.

Most Cordy's that I've seen, have the 2 piece front and rear black pumpers and are CLX's, I think, while the other Cordy's that have similar bumpers to mine, are GLX's. Again, the GLX and the SE and SXE rear bumpers are again different, as is the front pumber set up.

I still have the brochures when I bought it and in one of the brochures, they have what would have been a Cordoba SXE wagon, which would have been just perfect for me!!

Will take some pic's today and try and get then up before the end of the weekend.

Btw, my mates used to pay me out about the naming SEAT gave to the upper spec Cordy's, "SXE". When you 'say it' - sorry about that , fast, it does actually sound like "Sexy", but more like "Es-sex-ey". Took me a while to figure out what they were on about.

I just bought an Ibiza off golfloon. Not too many of them about either.

SEATs are a good compromise on cost and quality compared to VWs. I like them a lot. I had a 2001 Leon CUPRA in the UK which was as good as the Golf GTI that I took in part ex.

Welcome to the site as well.

I agree Cordoba Vario in Oz would have been great

Looking forward to pics even though I've seen them already

Yeah I would have bought a Cordoba Vario. Thay are a good sized small car, you can carry a load, but it still drives like a small car. They should have brought them here, and 2 door cordys.

We had to compromise and buy a Toledo, great boot. My criteria for cars includes if I cant get a washing machine in the boot, its no good to me.

Ok guys, here some pics from a while back that I forgot I had.

                    As I said, very standard!!

I wouldn't mind a set of those VW SuperCiti rims on the Cordy actually!! Anyone know if they would fit or how hard they would be to get a hold of?? Golf Loon?? Would you know??
