  • Ibiza Suspension question.

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering whether the suspension of a Seat Ibiza is the same as a MK3 Golf ?

    Cheers.

    yes.... and no...

The Ibiza has a Mk2 Golf front suspension set-up and a Mk4 Polo rear, so the rear track is 37mm narrower than the front.

Seb ran the VR6 coilovers in the Seat to bed them in before running them on the drag car . They bolt on at the front but the rear needs different spring heights . On a side note dont do it unless you have really soft springs otherwise the ride is extremely harsh !

Mk2 or 3 Golf stuff will bolt up.
Coilovers need different setting for Ibiza, thats it.

Just taking this a step further Matt. Are the lower control arm bushes on the Cupra 16V the same as say a Mk3 golf. And are Mk3 GolfVento the same as VR6? Also what about the bushes on the rear beam? Thanks in advance for your advice.

They aren't the same... the front suspension setup is MKII/III Golf (MKIII top mount if I rememeber correctly) but the rear is Polo. If you use Golf suspension all round the rear damper will sit more than half way through it's travel as although they'll fit the damper is too long for an Ibiza.
This is why you have to drill and use drop links when using a MKII Golf ARB at the rear!
There are numerous companies that do Ibiza specific suspension.

I have wrecked 2 Ibizas that had Golf 3 Coilovers in em.
They physically bolt in, dunno about where they are suppossed to sit, but surely thats the point of coilovers to be infinately adjustable?

BoraSport. lower control arm bushes are same as VR6 or TT if you want nicer ones.

Rear beam bushes are probably Mk2, they are not the smae as Mk3.

Coilovers have a recommended max and min range in which the shock works . Sure it could be lowered even more but it will wear out the shocks at an increased rate .

Saying they fit and using them is like saying the same thing about spark plugs . If it fits it doesnt mean the heat range is right for that car !

I was , like a year ago , that was short term to bed the coilovers in for the drag car (since a drag car would do bugger all kms it makes sense to bed suspension in on a road car ) The Seat is now running Weitecs . I did change the rear springs to the correct length in order to be in the range of the shock travel even though adjusting it would have made it a reasonable height but way out of range of the shock
